Rekindling The Dream... The Lunar Republic Society is the leading international advocacy group working toward privatized exploration, settlement and development of the Moon. Founded in 1999 on the thirtieth anniversary of humankind’s first visit to Earth’s nearest neighbor in the sky, the Society has established itself at the forefront of organizations helping to develop an infrastructure under which commercial and private development of the Moon can thrive while preserving her environment for future generations. As a base for further exploration of the Cosmos, as a center for scientific study, and as a potential source of clean, safe, affordable energy for Earth, the Moon provides the perfect setting for the next giant step by humankind. In accordance with the Lunar Settlement Initiative, the Lunar Republic Society is offering about 4% of the Moon’s approximately nine billion acres of land to the public in order to establish working Lunar settlements and raise more than $3.8 billion in revenues that will be used to support organizations that are working toward attaining our goal of establishing an operable scientific base on Luna by the year 2015. By choosing only certain areas of the Moon for development, the Lunar Republic Society seeks to provide the greatest opportunities for our citizens and partners, including:  Development of mineral resources for construction and fuel (minerals in the Moon’s surface may be used to manufacture bricks for buildings, while Helium3 deposits may be refined as a source of energy).  Establishing spaceports for commercial tourism and further exploration of the Universe (commercial tourism of space is widely considered as the next great adventure for humans, and the Moon will also be relied upon as a "way station" for journeys to Mars and beyond).  Creating centers of study and research for astronomers, geologists and other members of the scientific community (the Moon’s harsh yet pristine environment makes it an ideal location for deep space observatories and other research facilities).  The respectful preservation of the Moon’s distinctive geographic features — especially her awe-inspiring craters, mountains and other unique natural formations — as well as the historic landing sites of previous visitors from the Luna, Ranger, Surveyor and Apollo missions, as the legacy of all humankind.
