DataNAS series NAS Filer, Windows Application Software NAStart NAStart is a Windows based application software utility that allows the administrator to view all DataNAS on a LAN, WAN, VPN, etc, and manage them from a single convenient interface. NAStart is also perfect for firsttime setup of a DataNAS. NAStart also provides powerful features such as the ability to export DataNAS configuration settings to a file* to be saved somewhere for safekeeping, or copy configuration settings from another DataNAS on the network or from a source file and deploy those settings to multiple DataNAS units at once. *this feature is also built-in to DataNAS administration web interface, where you can also setup schedules for the system settings to be automatically backed up.

This document is an overview of NAStart to briefly show you the simple yet powerful features.

This is the ‘home page’ of NAStart, where we can view all DataNAS on our network. The “Local Servers” are DataNAS on your LAN, and Remote Servers are for WAN or VPN entries where you can scan an IP range or manually input an IP address.

If we right-click on a server, we can choose the ‘Configure Server’ option as shown here. We are able to specify a new Server Name, a Comment, and join it to a Windows Domain or Workgroup:

We can also specify the Network teaming mode if you have multiple Network Interfaces connected and in use, and assign the IP address of the unit.

Here we’ve selected Export System Settings for the server “DN” by clicking the appropriate toolbar icon.

We must specify the DataNAS administrator password to retrieve this information:

And NAStart quickly retrieves the information, and saves it in the encrypted and compressed configuration settings file.

In our example, we will choose from a configuration file itself:

DataNAS series NAS Filer, Windows Application Software NAStart NAStart will present this table to us, and we then select which DataNAS servers to “push” or “migrate” these configuration settings to. You can choose one server, or multiple servers. In our example, we’re importing the configuration data to the same server we exported it from (“DN”).

DataNAS series NAS Filer, Windows Application Software NAStart Once the server selection is complete, NAStart asks us which settings we wish to migrate to the destination server(s). We can choose to migrate the network and backup settings, the IP address, user accounts and quota information, as well as network shares and file/folder security information.

We’re done! The destination server(s) will reboot and apply the new settings! This is an excellent tool for distributing the same configuration from one server to many, or for simply restoring from a disaster.

Thank you, Support Team
