Job Summary Under the general direction of the Crew Leader, works with a team of traffic signal specialists to assist in the assembly, installation and maintenance of traffic control devices. The position supports the organization's goal of maintaining and expanding the traffic system network to meet the needs of the traveling public.

Education & Experience High School graduation (Grade 12), Ontario Minimum of thirteen (13) to twenty-four (24) months of related experience. The experience required for this position can be obtained in the electrical construction and maintenance activities of both the public and private sectors. Such sectors may include Traffic Light and Street Lighting construction and maintenance, Hydro Utilities, or factory plant maintenance. *Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.

Language, Certificates & Licenses Before operating the aerial (bucket) device, the worker must complete the Safety Awareness for Traffic Signal Workers Course conducted by EUSA (Electrical Utility Safety Association). This training is in electrical hazard awareness, emergency bucket escape, emergency bucket rescue, and hydraulic system fundamentals. Further training is provided in work-area protection (coning, use of flashing beacons, advance warning sign setup, and the use and applicability of Ontario safety manuals provided for such situations). A valid Ontario unrestricted "DZ" class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated. English oral, reading, writing

Knowledge Current policy and practice of the branch in carrying out work efficiently and safely City policies and procedures as they relate to Occupational Health and Safety, WHIMIS, and work-area protection Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and its application to both the worker and the employer

Knowledge of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act as it relates to working on the traveled portion of the highway Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation Traffic Manuals (Book 7, Temporary Conditions, Book 12, Ontario Traffic Manual)

Competencies & Skills Ability to understand and follow wiring schematics and diagrams Work and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers Continuously learn, assimilate and use new information Follow written and verbal instructions with a minimum of supervision Ability to pull cable through ducts in all weather conditions without physical limitations Ability to lift items of sixty (60) lbs weight and heavier when the load is shared between two (2) persons Ability to work at height, either on ladders or in an aerial bucket Ability to kneel and crouch when performing tasks Ability to work in manholes and small spaces If this opportunity matches your interest and profile please apply online by using the "Apply" button.
