The SKF Group is an international industrial corporation of AB SKF Sweden, founded in 1907, operating in 130 countries. The company has some 43000 employees and more than 70 manufacturing facilities throughout the world. Its international network is supported by nearly 20000 distributors and retailers. SKF is world leader in the rolling bearing business. Bearing, seals and special steels are SKF´s main product areas. In addition, they also manufacture and sell other industrial precision components and products.

One of these industrial precision products assortment is manufactured and sold by the SKF Linear Motion Division. This unit has some 700 employees, 6 manufacturing facilities, 3 product lines. One of the division´s strengths is its ability to serve the market through its organization based on 10 specialized Sales Companies located in Europe and North America. However product availability and product application support is provided world-wide by the SKF International network.

All Linear Motion products are available in this CD, in DWG and DXF files. Thanks to “Designer”, you can easily copy the drawing of the product you need into your own design drawing. If you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact your local SKF sales organization. It is free of charge.

The Linear Motion product range covers; • high efficiency screws • linear guiding systems • electromechanical actuators.

Concept of Modular range The CATR modular design concept makes it easy to interchange critical components such as motors, gears,

screws, attachments, etc. Custom built actuators are easily and cost efficiently built from standard parts. The CATR

range flexibility makes it suitable for an infinite number of applications.

Options: • AC or DC motors, 13 different alternatives • Ball or sliding screw • 3 screw pitches • 3 gear ratios • 7 standard stroke lengths up to 700 mm • Special stroke lengths up to 1500 mm. • Friction clutch gears • IP 44 or IP 65 • EMC filters (EN 50 081-1 and EN 55 022) • Range of front and rear attachments • Limit switches • Maintenance free

For easy selection three basic actuators forms the base for the Modular range:

• CATR 33 • CATR 33H • CATR 32B

ACME sliding screw, standard ACME sliding screw, high speed SKF Ball screw, for higher load or duty factors.

Duty factor • Design for intermittent operation • Permitted load related to duty factor, e.g. the higher the load, the less the permitted duty factor • Duty factor is defined as running time under load versus total cycle time

• The diagram shows load as function of duty cycle • For AC motors the capacitor must be selected with respect to the duty cycle and load. Required capacitor size is indicated in diagram.

Points to remember when using an actuator Alignment Make sure that the load is in line with the adjustment tube of the actuator. No radial load must be put on the actuator. Friction Clutch The friction clutch is not intended for use as a load limiter, but only for protection of the actuator and the mechanism to which the actuator is fitted. Environment The actuator should be protected against: • direct contact with water • rapid changes in temperature combined with high relative humidity • strongly corrosive environments Overload Actuators must not be overloaded. Exceeding maximum static loads involves a risk of buckling.

Temperatures The CATR can normally be used within a temperature range -20°C to +50°C. All performance data stated in the catalogue are only valid at 20°C. Lubrication A few drops of oil may be used on the adjustment tube if the actuator is used in a corrosive environments. Electric connections Make sure that the motor and limit switches are correctly connected and that the correct voltage is used. Continuous operation Actuators are intended for intermittent operation, but can operate continuously under special circumstances.

If incorrectly used an actuator can be unsafe. Consult SKF for application support.
