Guy Bonfiglio Baritone

Guy BONFIGLIO, French baritone of Sicilian origin, entered the Academy of Orleans, joining the class of Jacqueline Bonnardot, where he obtained a first prize. Simultaneously he attended classes in Lyric art given by Jean Giraudeau. He was prize winner at the international contests of Treviso (Italy) and Marmande (France). His professional career began with the role of Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) in Orleans in 1993. Since then he has been guest artist in many French national theatres: Marseilles in Gounod’s Romeo and Juliette, Nancy in Traviata, conducted by Evelino Pido, and Lille in the Tales of Hoffmann conducted by Jean-Claude Casadesus, and directed by Ugo de Ana. He has also appeared in the Opera houses of Rennes, Limoges, Toulon, Besançon, Caen, Saint-Etienne and Nice. Further roles have included, Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, Germont of Traviata, Schaunard in La Boheme, Dancaïre in Carmen, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Pasquale in the Joseph Haydn Orlando Paladino. And many buffo roles like Ping in Turandot, Sacristan in Tosca. He appeared in Traviata conducted by Paolo Olmi, and singing Schaunard in Puccini’s Boheme, at the Macau International Music Festival in China. In Grand Théâtre de Genève for a new productions of Tales of Hofmann with José Van Dam, and in Janacek’s House of Death, and Puccini’s Boheme. At the Opera Hong-Kong Abimelech, in Samson et Delilah of Saint-Saens, and Capulet in Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet, Make his debut singing in La Fenice di Venezia in a Poulenc orchestral concert. Plans for future seasons among others, include the roles of Ping in Turandot, the Sacristan in Tosca, Johann in Massenet’s Werther, Bartolo in Rossini's Barbiere di Siviglia, Conte Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos of Richard Strauss. Aside from his operatic activities, Guy BONFIGLIO is also a recitalist, making appearances frequently in Europe, in programmes of French Melodies and German Lieder. He also began a director career, he has already directed many Offenbach Operas, like La Vie Parisiènne.
