Latent Accelerator for Epoxy Resins

Dyhard® URAcc

Dyhard URAcc products represent latent micronized urone-type accelerators based on substituted urea. They are useful as latent accelerators preferably in combination with latent hardeners, e.g. Dyhard 100 series, for hot curing epoxy resin formulations. White silica (SiO2) serves as anti caking agent for reducing agglomeration tendency and improving free flowing properties. Especially Dyhard URAcc 43 is designed for epoxy formulations containing micronized dicyandiamide.

Dyhard URAcc products find application as highly latent accelerators in hot curing epoxy formulations. Their use is particularly suited in combination with micronized dicyandiamide, e.g. Dyhard 100S, or with dicyandiamide pastes Dyhard D50EP and DF50EP. Dyhard URAcc products offer comparable reactivity to the so called “industry standard” Dyhard UR200 (diurone). However, unlike diurone, these accelerators contain no halogen atoms or moieties and therefore may be preferred for applications where halogen-free formulations are required. The fact that they are not considered as dangerous chemical compounds shall make them extremely advantageous in terms of product handling, processability and with respect to environmental issues. In formulations based on liquid bisphenol-A epoxy resins (EEW 182-192) Dyhard URAcc products are typically added in amounts of 0,5-5,0 parts per 100 parts of epoxy resin. The optimal ratio strongly depends on the specific application and process requirements and has to be determined individually for each case. Their extraordinary latency makes Dyhard® URACC ideal for storage-stable one package formulations. Depending on fillers, modifiers and storage temperature shelf lives up to 12 months may be obtained. Unlike many other accelerators they show superior latency performance even in warm formulations.

Handling The acute oral toxicity levels are low (LD50 oral, rat > 2000 mg/kg). No hazard label is required. Nevertheless the usual precautions for handling chemicals must be observed. In particular the general threshold level for dust and a sufficient skin and eye protection must be observed. Please consult the Material Safety Datasheet for additional information.
