My project My project is taking place in Cambodia, in Samraong, a town in the Oddar Meanchey province (the red zone on the second map), in the extreme north of the country, close to the border with Thailand.
After one week of introduction to the Cambodian culture, I will join my social project. My role will be to teach English to young students between six and fifteen years old, through classes, but also trough several play activities. I would also have to participate in the renovations of some parts of the school building and take care of the little vegetable garden at the school. During the introduction week, I will stay in a typical Cambodian house. Then, I will be in a house for volunteers. In my free time, I will be able to discover the region and to meet the population. The Oddar Meanchey province is a distant region and mostly rural. Today, the town of Samraong and its region is still trying to get back on its feet after several years of civil war, that’s why they need volunteers from everywhere on earth. The school in which I will teach was built thanks to the association Greenway (link here), who asks the help of volunteers to improve the life of many Cambodian, trough education, health, or the preservation of the marine heritage. My trip will take place from the 15th of July, 2018 to the 10th of August, 2018.
Why do I need your help?
The cost of the volunteering program is 1039 euros (about 1262 US dollars). Indeed, to do this trip, I decided to organize it with WEP (World Exchange Program), the same organization with which I went to the United States for one school year. (WEP’s website here). 21% of the cost of the trip goes to WEP. After that, 66% goes to the host country (here Cambodia) because bed and food will be provided to me. 7% is given like donation to make local project in Cambodia, and 6% is for taxes. In addition, I will have to pay for my ticket plane, and I need to keep some money in case there is a problem.
To pay for the trip, I applied for a scholarship which cannot go over 500 euros (about 600 US dollars). That’s why I need your help! Everybody can give whatever amount of money he is willing to give, and all payments are secured. I would just have to collect the money before my departure. You don’t have to give a lot, what is important is to share this crowdfunding and to like! It needs to circulate everywhere to have more and more people participating. So, take your smartphones, tablets, computers, emails, mails, or even homing pigeons, I need your help!
