Dear Friends, We need your assistance on widely spreading the following : We need an international support to obstruct the draft seed law prepared by the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture which has been discussed in the parliament since 2 weeks. Our main opposition to this law is because it would transfer all the seed production, trial, control, certification and trading facilities to the Seed Industry (private sector). The meaning of this: Farmers would have no chance to save their own seeds, They would be forced to buy their seeds from the Seed Industry, Seed industry would import the seeds of multinational/transnational companies. Turkish Seed Industry consists of more than a hundred seed companies, 10% of which are working on the biotech crops (Monsanto, Bayer, Syngenta, Dow, Aventis, Zaneca, Limagrain, Pioneer etc). This law would legalize the importation and the production of the GM seeds in our fertile lands and would destroy our biodiversity and our ecology as well as destroying our peasants/farmers social and economic system.
