1 Accessing a Textbook from the VitalSource Platform for the First Time The first time you click the textbook link to access a book from the VitalSource platform, you will be prompted to agree to the End User License Agreement and Privacy Policy.
Click Continue to accept and proceed. VitalSource will prompt you to create a Bookshelf account. A fully configured Bookshelf account will allow you to have downloadable access to the book. A window will pop up, prompting you to create a new account:

From here, you will have 3 options (see details that follow): 1. You have an account and you can sign in. 2. You can register to setup a new account 3. You can continue to access the book without registering.
1.1 Sign into your Existing Bookshelf account You have an opportunity to sign into your existing Bookshelf account, if you have previously setup an account with VitalSource, which will move the current book license to your existing account. To sign into an existing Bookshelf account, click sign in near the top of the window. Bookshelf will then prompt you to sign in using a previously created username and password. If you do not know your password, you can click on Forgot your password?

1.2 Create a New Bookshelf Account If you have never used Bookshelf before, you may fully-configure your account. This will allow you to have downloadable access. You will then be able to use the VitalSource Bookshelf application on a variety of platforms. See http://support.vitalsource.com for more information about where VitalSource’s Bookshelf app is available. To register, you will need to provide these items: • Email address: this could be your personal, work, or school address. It does not have to match the email address of the online class environment. • First Name • Last Name • Password: you can use your own password that you make up • Security Question: this is used for password recovery. • Language Once you have filled in the appropriate information, you click Register. Once registered, you will be able to sign into your account from any device. Your user account will hold all the licenses for the books you have accessed.

1.3 Continue Without Registering You may proceed to read the book online-only if you choose to not register a new Bookshelf account or sign into your existing account. This will limit your access to the book by only allowing online access. You will not be able to use the Bookshelf applications on various platforms. Should you wish to access the book without registering, click on Continue without registering. This will hide the modal window for your reading session. When you access the book again, you will be prompted again to fully-configure your account.
