The VBSC (Virtual Base Station Controller) from ADC enables the deployment of an all IP-RAN into any legacy cellular network with a circuit switched MSC (Mobile Switching Center). Similar to traditional BSC, ADC’s VBSC can act as a concentrator where many different low capacity connections to BTSs (Base Transceiver Stations) become reduced to a smaller number of connections towards the MSC. Furthermore, in addition to providing the intelligence behind the BTS, new features and services can be seamlessly deployed with minimal disruption to the Hostexisting PLMN network by presenting standard A and Gb interfaces over TDM to the core network.

Virtual BSC (VBSC)

Expanding the Reach of Cellular Networks Key features and benefits of VBSC Presents a standard circuit switched AIF to a central MSC with a single SS7 point code • Manages multiple ADC UltraWAVE and FlexWave BSC/BTS elements with multiple AIF links transparently to the central MSC • Performs AIF signaling multiplexing function over IP to remote BSC elements to minimize backhaul signaling

Virtual BSC (VBSC)

Local switching/backhaul optimization • Subscribers within local coverage area are detected and their location is maintained in a local VLR as they register with the central MSC • AIF CIC assigned for call voice path by central MSC is used as normal for non-local calls, and monitored for any SRF prepaid announcements from the host PLMN • Local switching is performed by detecting call end points and controlling voice RTP streams over IP between remote media gateway elements. • Calls requiring backhaul over satellite, are bandwidth optimized while maintaining high voice quality (typically G.729b codec) • Announcements played over AIF CIC for locally switched call are routed on-demand over backhaul using a specifically optimized codec Central VBSC SBSC
