Transportation Planning Technologist - (1) Permanent Position Engineering Services Department Position Summary The Engineering Services Department, Infrastructure Division is accepting applications for the regular full-time position of Transportation Planning Technologist. Reporting to the Coordinator, Traffic and Parking, this position is responsible for establishing and ensuring appropriate design and implementation of traffic requirements necessary to accommodate all land development and Capital Works Projects in order to maintain the operational integrity of the municipal transportation system; and ensures the safe and efficient design and operation of new land developments as it relates to transportation. Major Job Responsibilities  Review development applications, subdivision draft plan, rezoning, consent, site plans, variances applications and capital road works projects to ensure compliance with corporate, provincial and industry standards and appropriate design criteria from a transportation planning perspective  Reviews, comments and approves traffic impact studies prepared by consultants in support of development proposals  Provides written comment with respect to traffic generation, access location/ design, traffic controls devices and prepares traffic engineering comments coordinating with other departments and outside government agencies prior to approval  Participates in pre-consultation and/or site meetings prior to the submission of development applications  Investigates and responds to complaints received through the planning department from the public or Council associated with either proposed development or transportation network improvements  Reviews and approves all Traffic Control Plans (TCP’s) for new sub-divisions/capital road projects ensuring signage, pavement markings and cycling facilities are as per OTM and Town standards  Assists the Coordinator, Traffic and Parking in preparing/updating the Transportation Master Plan and the Trails and Cycling Master Plan  Represents the Town at public meetings and Ontario Municipal Board Hearings and the Halton Active Sustainable School Transportation Committee  Complies with all health and safety practices as it relates to the work, standard operating guidelines and the Occupational Health & Safety Act  Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Department objectives Education and Experience  Minimum three (3) year technology college diploma in Transportation planning, civil engineering or urban planning  Full membership as a C.E.T. through OACETT or Candidate Member of Ontario Professional Planners Institute and eligible Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners  A minimum of three (3) years of experience in transportation planning, land development, and traffic impact analysis  A thorough understanding of the municipal planning process, engineering standards, field-related resource materials (ITE, HCM, OTM and TAC manuals) and transportation software programs (microsimulation software such as Synchro, Sim Traffic and ARCADY)  Proven ability to interpret legislation, guidelines and technical data  Excellent communication and report writing skills for the preparation of reports to Municipal Council, and to interact with departments and external agencies in a tactful and politically sensitive manner  Strong negotiating and problem solving skills Salary Range: $66,782 - $83,477 Interested applicants should apply online at www.milton.ca under the Careers section by 11:59 pm on Sunday, May 22, 2016.
