On a continental or planetary scale, whether it be applied to safety, patent infringement risks, the needs related to following a product through its life cycle or maintaining conformity with regulations, traceability has become a key factor in a company's competitiveness. Experience gained in major industrial sectors fully justfies the need to involve rail transport and modal and intermodal logistics in this vital technological evolution.
