A new dimension in press color control

A breakthrough in adjusting press inks on the spot

You can check color (delta E) and dot gain with a single measurement. Combining the capabilities of a spectrophotometer and densitometer in a single automated scanning system, SpectroMat measures ink density as well as spectral reflectance. Which means it can help you achieve accurate reproduction of both process and spot colors – something a densitometer alone can’t accomplish.

No matter how carefully you’ve prepared a job, if the ink’s not correctly adjusted on the press ... and the printed color is even the least bit off ... you could have an unhappy client on your hands. Now SpectroMat with iCPrint lets you measure spot color within any sheet up to 1,040 mm by 750 mm (40.9 inches by 29.5 inches). It even tells the pressroom operator how much to adjust each ink key to get the color perfect.

iCPrint can handle a wide range of printing processes. The ability to measure spot colors in the image as well as color bars makes the system ideal for packaging, labels, newspapers, flexo, gravure, and other printing that utilizes a lot of spot colors and may not include color bars.

The result: More rapid press set-up. Less press down-time. You increase throughput, reduce waste, and provide documentation that proves color quality for your customers on every job.

Scan color bars and measure spots in the image too

SpectroMat automatically measures the sheet in two dimensions – anywhere on the sheet. It only takes 30 seconds for the whole color bar to be scanned. Measuring spots in the image allows you to improve your color quality control process for all types of jobs – from packaging to labels to catalogs and more. After all, the client is buying the image, not the bars. So why not make sure the color is perfect on the part of the sheet you sell to the customer, not just the part you cut off?

Seamless digital workflow from prepress to the pressroom Through an optional data interface, you can quickly and easily connect pressroom digital data to your prepress digital proof in a smooth, integrated digital workflow. That way, colors specified in prepress can be automatically set up to be checked on press. Color standards can be digitized and stored in the system for fast and easy recall. In addition, iCPrint takes advantage of ICC profiles to accurately display colors on-screen.

Automated operation helps keep the press running iCPrint provides automated feedback to help keep your press run stable and within tolerance – reducing paper and ink waste, as well as press downtime. The system displays recommendations on how to adjust the press to achieve the closest color to a given OK or reference sheet – eliminating the need to interpret and translate color data. Recommendations are displayed by zone, making it easy to make changes on the press using the ink keys. The Best Match feature determines how closely the desired color can be matched with the ink being used. It makes recommendations on how much to change the ink film thickness to achieve this minimum color difference.

Quantitative proof that color meets customer specs If you have to prove quality to your customers, iCPrint can help. The system monitors and archives color data for the printed product during the entire press run. You can display color quality data in multiple views and print reports to prove color consistency to your customer – as required by ISO 9000 standards.

Features at a glance • Spectral-based readings – Calculates spectral as well as densitometric values for CMYK and spot colors. • Zone-orientated output – Displays information in detail over the whole sheet to show operator which ink keys should be adjusted. • Adjustment recommendations – Shows deviations and tells operator how to correct ink keys for best results. • Color bar scanning – Fast and "wide" analysis of the sheet captures all essential readings in one scan. Scanning time for a 1,000 mm color bar is less than 30 seconds. • Automated x/y capability – Automatically measures and scans the whole sheet in two dimensions. Single spots or color bars can be measured anywhere on the sheet. • Spot measuring within the sheet – Measures and adjusts color in the actual images, not just in the color bars. Results in more accurate color reproduction within the image. • Best Match – Predicts best reachable color match for quick determination of whether you can match a color. • Trend displays – Shows an overview of the whole print run to document color quality for the customer. • OK sheet scanning – Defines the target sheet quickly and easily so the operator can adjust the press according to an approved sheet. • ICC profile support – Displays color patches on-screen according to ICC standards. • Standard values library – Predefined color standards on different paper for job setup. Optional Pantone and other standards libraries will be made available. ®

• Optional CIP3/PDF data interface – Allows reference information to be easily extracted from the prepress data for faster setup time.
