Dear Dr. Noens: This is a letter of recommendation for Fabrice Portier-Fozzani, who wishes to apply for a position in your institute. I worked with Dr. Portier-Fozzani as an advisor at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, USA during his research toward a doctorate, in which he used observations of the solar corona made by the EUV Imaging Telescope (EIT) on SOHO, the Solar Heliospheric Observatory. In his research he was able to apply and extend the coronal loop modeling techniques introduced by Markus Aschwanden to infer the helicities of coronal loops and their changes with time. That was an original work, which he pursued with talent and energy. I believe that he has an excellent background in the physics of the solar corona and an understanding of current scientific problems in this field. This, together with his knowledge of current techniques in the modeling of coronal structures and his very capable computing skills should enable him to make significant contributions in his area of research. I heartily recommend him to you for the position for which he applying.
