OS X.52a Release Note June 26th 2006

1.4 Dedicated Versions for Specific Markets 1.4.1 New Product Introduction For specific market requirements, additional “country dedicated” of Wireless CPU versions have been launched. 1.4.2 Dedicated Version As these products are tailored for dedicated countries, they are locked to only function with the selected countries available carriers. These products will not be compatible with the previous SW versions on the branch (refer to 5.1.). Obviously Wavecom will perform maintenance on these products as was done for other products. 1.4.3 Storage & Marking For dedicated countries versions, the SW Configuration of this version includes the mention “CCx” in the Product Code file,, where x indicates the country. The SW configuration only appears on the pizza box. Special attention is required to manage the storage, of this SW configuration as it is the only way to identify the product. 1.4.4 Availability SW versions available on the Wavecom web site are only for standard (nondedicated) products. In order to obtain Software versions to update products dedicated to specific countries, contact your Wavecom technical support. 1.4.5 Warning Standard X.52a software not tuned for specific countries must not be used on Wireless CPUs that are dedicated to a specific country, due to potential incompatibility. In this case, the message BAD SOFTWARE is displayed (refer to the AT Command Interface Guide for more information on this message). This can be rectified by re-downloading a compatible version. 1.4.6 Software Behavior The specific country lock feature is aimed at locking a Wireless CPU use to a pre-determined list of countries. ÖThe use of Wireless CPUs for no-allowed countries is forbidden. If this is attempted, the message “SIM NOT ALLOWED FOR THIS MODULE” is sent, the Wireless CPU reset and AT SIM commands are not possible. Ö Wireless CPU upgrade by using a specific country lock version is irreversible. All Wireless CPU upgrades performed by using such a version cannot use previous software versions. If this is attempted, a message “BAD SOFTWARE” is displayed.

Description (What/When)

30363 When GPS controller is powered off using AT+WGPSM=0,0, GPS antenna is not correclty powered off. 31372 When a call is received from a number which has been saved in the phonebook (ADN or ME), and CLIP is activated, name field of the caller is always displayed with an extra character "@" at its end. 31391 GPS UART speed cannot be changed using AT+WGPSCONF=1, command. This results in incorrect speed setting. 31395 When FD phonebook is activated or selected, after entering CHV2 code using +CPIN2 command, making a dial using DTR pin (after activating AT&D1; command) is not possible. The outgoing call should be launched 32242 When Airplane mode is set using AT+WBHV=1,1, the Wireless CPU registers and then deregisters to the network. Wireless CPU should not register to the network. 32518 When a very critical issue occurs and leads to the E2P parameters restoration to default ones, the Open AT® application is deactivated. 32554 Because of development base side effects, with an active GPRS session, if the antenna is unplugged, there is no +CREG: 2 indication displayed using an Open AT® application. This indication should be returned 33983 Software label is missing in response to ATI3 command 34024 Hot start mode not available when switching off then on the GPS (timing synchronisation around 40 seconds) 28704 Wrong Port Id is returned in the response of AT+WMFM=0,2 command. 28830 If FDN phonebook is not available in the SIM card, the Wireless CPU goes into a hung state and answers +CME ERROR: 515 to AT+CLCK command. When FDN phonebook is not available, the service shouldn't be loaded. 33061 When AT+WIMEI? command is executed consecutively for 2025 times, the Wireless CPU resets. 29134 The default value of AT+WDR command is set to +WDR: 2,1 (Half rate for data calls is allowed) though Wavecom Wireless CPU does not support Half-rate for data calls. 30350 When AT+WMFM command is executed to read the status of the UART, incorrect UART number is displayed in the response. 31448 Minimum level for BattLevelMin should be set to 3300 or 3400 depending on the Wireless CPU (Q25 3.4V, Q24 3.3V) 31742 The parameter of NITZ information received with the +WIND indication shows incorrect results 31759 If AT+CFUN=0 (or AT+CPOF) is sent too quickly (less than 300ms) after the OK answer of AT+CGATT=0 (to detach GPRS), then a non-fatal backtrace is dumped and the Wireless CPU is blocked in busy state until reset. 34130 Ring tone should not be heard when it is set to minimum volume level using AT+WSST=, 15 command

OS X.52a Release Note June 26th 2006 Id

Description (What/When)

28779 If FDN phonebook is not available in the SIM card, the Wireless CPU goes into a hung state and answers +CME ERROR: 515 to AT+CLCK command. When FDN phonebook is not available, the service shouldn't be loaded. 29375 Wireless CPU returns +CME ERROR: 13 on making a call with SIM that does not support Alpha Id field. 33881 AT+CPBN command gives wrong responses after a SMS is read 34161 Response of AT+WPGW=? Command returns incorrect length for name field 31147 When the SIM doen't contain the EF-SMSR and SR is configured to be stored in flash (+CNMI and +CSMP commands), it's not stored in flash and +CMGR command to read it blocks the Wireless CPU in +CME ERROR: 515 state. It should read the SMS SR 32553 When a SMS writing doesn't succeed (AT+CPMS="ME","ME" : flash memory), the Wireless CPU returns OK. In this case, reading the SMS makes a reset. If the SMS writing fails in flash, the Wireless CPU should return +CMS ERROR: 500 33850 Wireless CPU resets when a SMS CB is received 33861 Impossible to send a SMS when destination address contains "+" (i.e. international number) 33924 Wireless CPU resets when a SMS in UCS2 format and stored in ME memory is read in PDU mode (set with AT+CMGF=0). 34111 Writing or sending a SMS with a desination number with more than 12 digits resets the Wireless CPU. 31067 Configuration of command +CPMS can not be saved. Hence, a SMS that is received when the Wireless CPU is off is always stored in SM memory at power on, even if the storage area was previously set to ME. 31741 Improper validation for Data Coding Scheme performed when wrong DCS value is set using AT+CSMP command. 34236 Configuration of command +CPMS can not be saved. Hence, a SMS that is received when the Wireless CPU is off is always stored in SM memory at power on, even if the storage area was previously set to ME. 31223 TC 27.22.4.7.1 Seq 1.3 FAILED : SIM service refresh table not performed and read. SIM SST not read and Preferred PLMN not updated. 33385 When the SIM is removed and inserted several times, the CPU may reset with RTK exception (OUT OF MEMORY). 32558 CSD data transfer systematically fails when V42bis is activated (with AT%C2 and AT\N5) and RLP mode is selected (with AT+CBST=X,X,1) 31086 If BattLevelMax is upper than 4490, when the Wireless CPU restarts, ADC measurements through +ADC command are not available. The limit of BattLevelMax is normally 5000. 31658 Reset occurs when trying to read data on SPI bus with WM_BUS_SPI_LSB_FIRST parameter 31385 Flow control does not work on UART2. 33882 Hot start mode not available when switching off then on the GPS (timing synchronisation around 40 seconds)

OS X.52a Release Note June 26th 2006 Id

Description (What/When)

31022 The ADL_FCM_EVENT_FLOW_CLOSED event is not received when unsubscribing from UART2 in RTE 32464 On a DOTA install request, the XModem downloader does not detect corrupted binary files and performs the flash copy anyway: corrupted software is then installed (unpredictable effects). 33565 Wireless CPU with INTEL flash may be frozen when downloading specific Open AT® application. 30625 An application subscribes to a fixed size A&D cell, and writes data in it. If the cell is not finalized and a reset is performed, the remaining writable space will be wrong. 33273 Reset may happen after cell reselection while in GPRS transfer mode 33595 TC 42.4.8.4.1 and TC 42.4.8.4.3 FAILED : Cell still present after removal in PMO 33597 TC 42.3.1.1.9 FAILED : Only Direct Encoding MA should be stored as MA number 15, when received in assignment message. 33605 TC 42.3.1.1.9 FAILED : Bad PSI2 decoding when Arfcn_Index list is present in GPRS Mobile Allocation description. 33596 TC 42.1.2.1.10.1 FAILED : On receipt of PUA containing more assigned PDCHs than the MS supports according to its GPRS multislot class, access procedure is aborted when it shall be reinitiated 29813 Reset may occur on A memory Wireless CPU, if no more memory is available for data during GPRS transfer 32367 SETUP message received from network containing value X75 in field UIL2P is considered as wrong 30182 During cell selection, if a best cell is detected, cell change is performed but CCCH channel configuration may be incorrectly managed and a MS may reset. 32856 When the SIM has ACC 5, 11 and 15 for Acces Class, and the network allows the ACC 10,11 & 15, the MS should not be able to acces to VPLMN. 33566 Wireless CPU may not be reachable after a long period in an area with no service. 33593 TC 26.7.4.3.4 FAILED : Channel Request received before T3211 expiry 31342 Following 3GPP groups request, A5/2 algorithm should not be supported anymore on the network and MS 30513 At the end of DOTA, the binary is correctly downloaded but a semaphore exception occurs sometimes. 33127 After several AT+CFUN=1, the Open AT® application may not restart properly (AT commands still available) 28617 The ‘Alphafield’ of SDN phonebook entry can not store more than 30 characters. When more than 30 characters are written into ‘Alphafield’, the Wireless CPU resets during phonebook initialization. 30891 When the 'ON_OFF' pin is set to LOW after startup of Wireless CPU, if a software exception occurs (ARM, RTK or Fatal errors), the Wireless CPU is switched-off.

OS X.52a Release Note June 26th 2006

6.7 Restrictions This section lists restrictions that must be taken into account regarding the X.52a firmware. 6.7.1 Common to all Wireless CPUs Id 33715

Description ( What / When )

SIM detection – When the SIM is extracted and inserted several times very quickly, +WIND: 0 indication may be missing. As a consequence, SIM card is not detected anymore. HW reset is needed to recover the right behaviour. Reproducibility : Hard. 28784 LD phonebook – When the Wireless CPU is power cycled, some of the Last Dialed Numbers might have been removed from the LD phonebook. Reproducibility : Easy. 31678 External application / Open AT® application interaction Reset ("Error #0011 : Release memory error...") may occur when at the same time an Open AT® application treats received SMS and an external application sends AT commands to the Wireless CPU. Reproducibility : Hard. CUS34554 Unicode SMS – When reading a SMS stored in ME containing more than 42 UCS2 (Unicode) characters, and PDU mode is activated using AT+CMGF=0, the user data of the PDU message is truncated. As a work-around, the user can activate extended SMS header information (AT+CSDH=1) and read the SMS using TEXT mode (AT+CMGF=1). Reproducibility : Systematic. CUS34555 Empty SMS – When reading an empty SMS (containing no characters) stored in ME, and PDU mode is activated using AT+CMGF=0, only 0000000000000 characters are displayed (no SMS header, no user data). As a work-around, the user can activate extended SMS header information (AT+CSDH=1) and read the SMS using TEXT mode (AT+CMGF=1). Reproducibility : Systematic. 29274 Open AT® – If an external host sends data through serial link towards an Open AT® application, then some data may be lost. 33831 This can particularly happen when flow control is required from Open AT® application to external host during uplink transfer through and UDP socket. Reproducibility : Hard. 29282 Downloader – It is no more possible to monitor the DCD signal (which is multiplexed with a GPIO) to launch automatic download. Indeed, new X-modem downloader does not initialize GPIOs anymore. Reproducibility : Systematic. 33452 GPRS session – During GPRS Transfer, some networks may sometimes reconfigure the timeslot allocation bitmap. If this new allocation bitmap does not match with the previous one, the Wireless CPU may reset. Reproducibility : Hard.

OS X.52a Release Note June 26th 2006 33708

DF 34325

Call – If the Wireless CPU was previously switched off with no proper IMSI detach procedure (e.g. when battery is removed), the Wireless CPU may become unreachable if a first incoming call is received just after power on and before the location update procedure is initiated (i.e. before SIM card end of initialization). Reproducibility : Hard. TCP/IP Everywhere – The TCP/IP application is not activated by default. The AT+WOPEN=1 command has to be sent for TCP/IP stack activation. Reproducibility : Systematic. Battery charging – If battery was discharged below BattLevelMin, when plugging the charger to CHG_IN pin, the Wireless CPU will automatically switch on then off in a loop. Reproducibility : Systematic.

6.7.2 Specific to A memories Id

Description ( What/When )

28778 DATA CSD / GPRS – Data CSD calls on one UART and GPRS 28757 sessions on the other UART are not simultaneously available. Having both running at the same time will cause a reset. Reproducibility : Systematic. 28844 Agenda – Exception may occur when GPRS attachment is done and agenda events are stored simultaneously. Consequently, agenda must not be used if GPRS is used. Reproducibility : Hard. 27537 Phonebook - in extended mode (AT+WCOS=1), when using the flash phonebook (AT+CPBS="ME"), when all the parameters of +CPBW command have the max length, the max number of entries that can be stored is not 500 but 270. In normal mode (AT+WCOS=0), the max number is well 500. Reproducibility : Systematic. 31672 V42bis compression – The number of dictionary entries is set to 1024 by default. This is also the maximum value that must be used with A memory Wireless CPUs. If an upper value is used and V42bis compression is enabled, the Wireless CPU may reset systematically when performing an outgoing DATA call. Reproducibility : Easy (depending if network manages V42bis compression or not). 31274 TCP/IP Plug-in – On A memory Wireless CPU, reset may occur when using simultaneously or consecutively 2 TCP sockets, after having performed voice calls. Reproducibility : Easy.

6.7.3 Specific to Q2501B Wireless CPU Id

Description ( What / When )

28870 Charge indications – AT+WBCM =1,1 command is sent to start battery charging with unsolicited indications. But charge indications (+WBCI) are not received while battery is charging. This prevents the user from monitoring the battery level. Reproducibility : Systematic. DF UART2 availability – The UART2 is not available when the GPS internal mode is activated on Q2501B (see AT+WMFM chapter in the AT Command Interface Guide). Reproducibility : Systematic.
