In the shadowy light of his secret laboratory, Erik Elektrik synthesizes various alternative movements, constantly searching for the ultimate, original musical formula. In 1999, he's struck by the obvious: He needs an assistant. He creates a hybrid from the brain of a raver found dead at a techno festival, the corpse of a post-punk rocker and the heart of a voodoo priest. He brings his creation to life through electric sparks and forbidden chemistry... Frankensound is born. The newly-formed duo channel bold and eclectic productions thru electronic sounds. They meld rock, punk, funk, dub and other unidentified sound objects, all the while dipping into the energy of the third millenium. Their new sonic inventions come to life under the SIGNAL ELECTRIQUE moniker. Their first album, Acid Library, like a Frankenstein's monster, is made of bits and pieces, setting the basis in 2001 for this hyperdynamic duo, but it's on the road that the communicative properties of Signal Electrique are truly enhanced. It wasn't by chance that Signal Electrique were embraced by la Fnac (an important French cultural chain store), and that they united with Crystal Distortion, 69db, and Interlope on the Chip Jockey CD collection, or that they were graced in 2003 with the "Attention Talent Scène" award of the famous French festival “le Printemps de Bourges”. Jukebox Monkey, a digitalisation on CD of the 2003 Signal Electrique, is a testament of their creative process. In this disc Signal Electrique let musical styles run loose by spreading an endless flow of sonic data under a mysterious codex which shares analogical improvisations, digital predeterminations, humor and shattering rhythmics. That year, from festivals to clubs, from live gigs to sound creations, these two freaks constantly tested and upgraded their live prototype to obtain the optimal level of escape...The dancers said, "Right on!" In 2005 they withdrew into their underground estate and blasted fresh energy into their machines, creating an all-new studio introspection. This time, Erik Elektrik and Frankensound decided to limit the use of sequencers and to record live. They sublimated electric organs and vintage synthesisers, and turned aside samples and unlikely loops, returning to spare and melodic compositions. Because of this different approach, it was quite natural that they chose to integrate the voice of Dave Dick, the demonically possessed singer from the electro-trash duo, Dick Voodoo. The result is a dose of perpetually groovy rock energy, which will materialize on Expressillon / Discograph this Fall, 2006. To parallel this different approach, Signal Electrique have optimized their live set-up to convey the richness of their new compositions. Erik Elektrik handles the sequenced parts with the help of rhythm boxes and samplers. Frankensound plays samplers and synthesizers, live, without a safety-net (no laptop, no never ending preset sequences), while being able to play the extremely varied pieces from their set list. On stage each of them plays a very different role, however it's the merging of their two conceptions of electronic music that gives the music its strong identity and coherence. For the past seven years Signal Electrique have provided an imaginative and lively contribution to electronic music. The duo keep things fresh by rearranging the songs differently each time they play. For their 2006/2007 season, slide projection will interact with their machines, for an all-new dimension to their live experience.
