FRONT SEATS 52 10 ... BACKREST ADJUSTMENT NOT FUNCTIONING Backrest Adjustment Fault Backrest adjustment, driver seat or front passenger seat, not functioning. The backrest adjusting lever is blocked.

Cause It is possible that one of the Easy Entry segments is not fully engaged.

FRONT SEAT, NORMAL, MANUAL 52 13 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING GUIDE FOR LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTRAINT Necessary Preliminary Tasks: 

Remove backrest lock. Refer to 52 13 405 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING HEAD RESTRAINT PANEL ON DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS (MANUAL / ELECTRIC SEAT ADJUSTMENT).

Press in retaining tabs (retaining lugs) and remove guide.

Tilt front seat and slide forward as far as it will go. Release and DISPOSE OF screws (1) at back end. Tightening torque, refer to 52 13 1AZ in SEATS - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 . Slide front seat back as far as it will go.

Carpet must not get between seat rails and floor pan near screw-fastening points (grating noises).

Slide front seat as far forward as possible. Release and dispose of screws (1). Installation: Replace screws. Tightening torque, refer to 52 13 1AZ in SEATS - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .

Slide front seat as far back as possible. Release and dispose of screws (1). Tightening torque, refer to 52 13 1AZ in SEATS - TIGHTENING TORQUES - COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 . Carefully tip front seat towards rear. Unlock and disconnect plug connections under front seat. IMPORTANT: Cover entrance for protection purposes (risk of damage). Seat frame has very sharp edges. Danger of injury! Lift out front seat. Installation: Carpet must not get between seat rails and floor pan in area of screw fastening points (grating noises).

Necessary Preliminary Tasks: 







Remove seat airbag. Refer to SIDE AIR BAG MODULES for model year 2002, or SIDE AIR BAG MODULES for model year 2003, or SIDE AIR BAG MODULES for model year 2004-05. Remove inner trim of seat cushion. Refer to 52 13 041 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING INNER PANEL ON DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS (MANUAL / ELECTRIC). Remove outer trim of seat cushion. Refer to 52 13 043 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING OUTER PANEL ON DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS (MANUAL / ELECTRIC). Remove head restraint.

If necessary, detach adjusting wheel for lumbar support (1) in direction shown. Release lower fixture (2) of backrest panel. Release side fixture (3) of backrest panel. Release upper fixture (4) of backrest panel. Disconnect Bowden cable (5) for easy entry in direction shown from seat mechanism.

Turn handwheel for lumbar support so as to produce the lowest possible lumbar support. Detach lumbar support handwheel (1) from backrest. Pull cover fastener (2) off backrest frame. On lumbar support handwheel side only: Lever welt (3) out of backrest frame. Disengage tensioning wire (4) from backrest frame.

REPLACING INNER PANEL ON DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS (MANUAL / ELECTRIC). Remove outer trim of seat cushion. Refer to 52 13 043 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING OUTER PANEL ON DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS (MANUAL / ELECTRIC). Remove seat belt tensioner. WARNING: US/CDN front passenger seat (with OC3 mat) only: To avoid damaging the OC3 mat, it is essential to carry out the following operations with extra care.

When replacing seat cover: If seat cover is defective, seat cover and support with OC3 mat must be replaced together. New seat cover is supplied with support, OC3 mat and if necessary seat heating. When replacing support with OC3 mat: If OC3 mat or support is defective, both parts may only be replaced together. These must be fitted with the seat cover from the car. After fitting seat cover, enable OC3 mat with diagnosis system. Enabling seat occupancy detector (OC3 mat):   

Connect diagnosis system. Release seat occupancy detector. Clear fault memory if necessary.

IMPORTANT: The mucket (2) must be fitted on the seat frame (3) at corner points (1) (risk of damage to seat cover).
