Sabine Verzier (549 words) Who should be called a journalist, then ? After reading these comments, one thing comes to my mind. To In my opinion, dissociating journalism and participatory journalism would be a good thing. They obviously share the same noun name but that's all they have in common. In my view, we should not compare them as they are very different from each other. I share the same idea as @Roxanne when she says Journalism is a serious business. It requires a lot of work, and it cannot be replaced by anyone else. It is as job, not a hobby. I would consider it as a due for the people, revealling information that would otherwise remains private. We underrate journalism's power -I believe this is the Fourth kk reason why I would not dare comparing (to) compare it to Estatepower- and this is the participatory journalism.

To my mind, participatory journalism is more a way to give an another point of view and another side of the information , such as testimonies for example. As they're not sharing the writing process, the unbiased work, I do not consider it as journalism. But still, even if it is not, this is still very precious and useful and it should not be put aside. I only consider that it should be hightlighted in a different way than in a journalism's sector.

Crowdsourcing = user-generated content @Soledad To my mind @Soledad, it would be wrong to say that Journalism is about checking and commenting facts. As I see it, in theory Journalism is about spreading the information in an unbiased way. It is not its job to comment ON it, it would be more the readership's work.

Je ne comprends pas ce ‘a due’ : people ought to report/ reveal whatever info they hold ?

Pas clair non plus

Conception étroite du métier: quelle est la plu-value par rapport à une agence de news comme l’AFP ?

But I share your point of view when you say that being a journalist requires a real knowledge and therefore also a lot of studies.a solid academic background This is the reason why I would not say as @Alice that citizen journalism improves journalism. Citizen journalism is about stressing an opinion, in order to make things change. These are not facts, nor information, these are points of view. I believe participatory/citizen journalism won't change nor replace Journalism as it is not the same thing. Nevertheless, both are useful to make up one's mind but they shall should not get mixed up. be confused The great firewall of China China managed to keep its citizen far enough from the world's information for 12 years. But how can you control a population of 1 billion of people ? Plus What more in a country producing most of the electronic devices in the world ?

1 billion people, 3 billon people ≠ billions of people

Les propositions circ. de temps et de lieu ne s’insèrent pas dans les propositions centrales mais se mettent en début /fin de phrase (=>Today, China’s great firewall is collapsing : today en début ou fin de phrase) The great Firewall knows today a crack. And to my mind, this is simply a good news. Censorship might stop -not completely of course- but this is still a first step. I simply hope they won't take a step back, and they won't continue what they started with twitter. You can't lock a whole population up and forbid them such a libertyfreedom, i.e. the internet. @Romaissa Actually, I dare to believe that he is not congratulating an opressing authoritarian government. He is stressing the fact that a government cannot control the information forever -even if it did so successfully by in the past- and especially in today's society. Such a system cannot last, and just like you, I believe the final blow will have to come from the inside. Well, at least, I hope it will.
