Carpets, rugs and tapestries since 1867 History and expertise 150 years of perfection have led PINTON to become one of the most renowned names in exceptional carpets, rugs and tapestries. The works produced by the “basse lisse” looms of our Felletin workshops have helped popularise the art of French textile making around the world. The PINTON family have always had a passion for the art of weaving. From 1867 to the present day, this passion, combined with the age-old expertise of their artisans, has spun a promising and innovative future. With excellence and creativity their only boundaries, PINTON has brought the Aubusson tradition into the modern era. The company is divided in two entities - PINTON Manufacture, dedicated to luxury interior design, and PINTON Editions, devoted to contemporary art. With this, the family company is rapidly gaining international visibility, showcasing French expertise in the art of weaving.

Dans la tradition ancestrale d’Aubusson, le cartonnier, maître d’œuvre de génie, et ses lissiers virtuoses, en communion de pensée avec les créateurs, façonnent sur leurs métiers de basse-lisse, des œuvres d’exception. Ils ont servi par le passé la promotion de nombreux artistes comme Calder, Delaunay ou Le Corbusier et plus récemment Enzo Cucchi, Joe Tilson ou Etel Adnan et assuré ainsi le prestige de PINTON. Cette dextérité manuelle, cette harmonie de l’œil du créateur, de la main de l’artisan et des matières se retrouvent dans toutes les réalisations PINTON.

De la tapisserie décorative aux tapis ras, réalisés au point noué ou tuftés à la main, des moquettes aux tapis d’escalier sur-mesure, une même exigence opère. Cette recherche de la perfection a toujours poussé PINTON à innover. La manufacture est dotée de toutes les nouveautés techniques exigées par la création contemporaine. Ainsi, toutes les matières, comme les fils métalliques ou le lurex, peuvent se mêler aux traditionnels fils de laine et de soie venus de filatures locales. Dans nos ateliers, le faire artisanal s’identifie à une éthique : nos artisans priment, la machine reste la fidèle collaboratrice de leur maestria. Ce savoir-faire demeure unique mais pour tous, pour toutes les demandes et pour tous les prix. —

Art and substance To achieve their level of excellence, PINTON relies on the artisans in their workshops of Felletin and their unique expertise, found only in France. In the age-old tradition of Aubusson, the “cartonnier”, master craftsmen and master weavers work in harmony with the designer to create masterpieces on their “basse-lisse” looms. In the past, they have worked with a number of artists including Calder, Delaunay and Le Corbusier. More recently they have collaborated with Enzo Cucchi, Joe Tilson and Etel Adnan. All the while they guarantee the prestige of the PINTON name. Each PINTON design embodies the harmony between the artist’s vision, the skill and craft of the artisan and the exceptional materials used in production.   From decorative tapestries and rugs to hand-knotted or hand tufted low-pile carpets - the quality will always be of the same exceptional standard. This constant search for perfection has always encouraged PINTON to innovate. The workshops benefit from all the modern techniques, essential for producing today’s contemporary designs. And so, all materials, such as metallic lurex threads, can be combined with the more traditional locally sourced wool and silk threads.   In our workshops, the golden rule of the craft is: our artisans take precedence over the machines - machines are the faithful assistants to their expertise. This expertise is the same for every project, whatever the request and whatever the price.

Traditionnellement réalisés au point noué par nos artisans à Felletin, PINTON a innové en introduisant la technique du tuftage au pistolet. PINTON est l’unique manufacture en France à offrir cette qualité de tapis tuftés en complément du point noué. Les tapis PINTON perpétuent la tradition d’Aubusson en utilisant de la laine locale et des fils très fins, voués ordinairement à la tapisserie. PINTON peut ainsi proposer des tapis d’exception d’une subtilité infinie, des tapis sur-mesure, tuftés, tissés au point noué, dans des matières très variées. Le savoir-faire et l’expertise PINTON s’adaptent ainsi aux demandes à la carte des professionnels de la décoration et des particuliers. —

Carpet Renowned around the world for its tapestries, Aubusson has also always produced rugs. PINTON’s artisans in Felletin traditionally made knot-pile carpets. In a move to modernise, PINTON has now introduced the technique of tufting using a hand tufting gun. PINTON is the only manufacturer in France to offer this quality of tufted carpet, alongside its knot-pile carpets. PINTON carpets continue the tradition of Aubusson, using local wool and very fine threads, usually used in the production of tapestries. PINTON is therefore able to offer exceptional carpets with infinite subtlety - bespoke, tufted, knot-pile carpets in a huge variety of materials. PINTON can adapt its expertise and technical prowess to the demands of interior design professionals and private customers.

Tapisserie Depuis un siècle et demi, PINTON réalise des tapisseries exceptionnelles, incarnations contemporaines du génie ancestral de l’art d’Aubusson. Les modèles créés à la demande sont l’œuvre de designers et d’artistes. Les matières, dimensions et couleurs peuvent être déclinées dans le respect de l’esprit de leur créateur. Les tapisseries d’art, rêvées par PINTON Éditions, sont des œuvres originales en séries très limitées, des créations d’artistes du XXe et XXIe siècles. Elles se destinent aussi bien au marché de l’art, aux collectionneurs, institutionnels et particuliers, qu’aux architectes, prescripteurs et décorateurs d’intérieur de luxe.

Moquette et tapis d’escalier Référence de la tapisserie et du tapis d’exception, PINTON applique depuis plus de trente ans la même exigence de qualité à la fabrication et la pose de ses moquettes et tapis d’escalier sur-mesure. Nos moquettes sont tuftées ou mécaniques et nos tapis d’escalier unis ou ornés de motifs complexes. Dans le monde entier, l’expertise PINTON répond à tous types de demandes (fabrication, installation et entretien). —

Carpet and stair carpet As an international reference in exceptional tapestries, carpets and rugs, PINTON has been making and fitting bespoke carpet and runners with the same high standards for more than thirty years. Our carpets are hand tufted or produced mechanically. Our runners are plain coloured or decorated with ornate patterns. PINTON works around the world and thanks to its expertise can handle any type of request (manufacture, installation and maintenance).

Tapestries For 150 years, PINTON has been making exceptional tapestries, creating contemporary incarnations of the traditional art of Aubusson tapestry making. Models are created to order and are the work of designers and artists. Materials, dimensions and colours can be entirely adapted to the artist’s vision. The tapestries, true works of art created by PINTON Editions are original works produced in very limited quantities by 20th and 21st century artists. They are destined to the art market, for collectors, institutions and art lovers as well as architects, market influencers and high-end luxury interior designers.

Tapis — Rugs Tapis dans la lumière Empreints de l’esprit d’Aubusson, nos tapis d’exception s’inscrivent à la croisée de la créativité et du savoir-faire séculaire de la maison PINTON. Comme les tapisseries, les tapis ras sont exécutés à la main sur des métiers de basse-lisse. Du tuftage-main au point-noué, les artisans de nos ateliers de Felletin maîtrisent toutes les formes du tissage manuel. Ils n’ont recours qu’à des matières d’excellence et aux services personnalisés des filatures et teinturiers locaux. Toutes les fibres naturelles sont spécialement filées et teintes à l’échantillon sur place. La laine et la soie peuvent s’assortir de fils métalliques, de cuir, de vinyle. Le lin, le coton ou le bambou sont travaillés en velours ou en bouclé. Toutes les combinaisons des matières les plus diverses sont permises afin d’offrir à nos clients des pièces uniques et sur mesure. PINTON assure un accompagnement étroit auprès des plasticiens, architectes ou décorateurs pour la réalisation de ces œuvres originales. —

Spotlight on rugs Typical of the Aubusson style, our exceptional rugs are a combination of creativity and age-old expertise from the PINTON company. Like the tapestries, the low-pile rugs are made by hand on “basse-lisse” style looms. From hand-tufting to the hand-knotting technique technique, the artisans in our Felletin workshops are highly skilled in all forms of hand weaving. They use only the very best materials and rely on the customised techniques of local spinning and dyeing companies. All the natural fibres are specially spun and dyed to sample in the workshop. The wool and silk can be combined with metallic threads, leather or vinyl. Linen, cotton or bamboo are woven into velvet or loop pile. We can combine even the most diverse range of materials, allowing us to offer our customers unique, bespoke pieces.   PINTON works in close collaboration with artists, architects or interior designers to design original pieces.

Lisses et délices Depuis 1867, les tapisseries les plus exceptionnelles et les plus prestigieuses sont tombées des métiers de basse-lisse des ateliers PINTON – dont la plus grande du monde, « Le Christ en Gloire » de la Cathédrale de Coventry. Après avoir travaillé avec les plus grands artistes du XXe siècle (Pablo Picasso ou Alexander Calder), nos artisans virtuoses collaborent et tissent pour les designers et les artistes d’aujourd’hui (Christophe Tissot ou Françoise Quardon). Le savoir-faire traditionnel d’Aubusson reste tourné vers la modernité, l’innovation et l’imagination des créateurs. Les plus grands artistes ont mis leur génie au service de l’art des lisses de PINTON. Cet art est aussi une industrie où les artisans PINTON font montre du même savoir-faire industrieux pour répondre aux demandes et aux commandes destinées au monde de la haute décoration. PINTON propose des collections sur mesure (tapis, tapisseries, moquette) dont les caractéristiques peuvent être déclinées à la demande de nos clients et des prescripteurs. —

Woven luxury The most exceptional and prestigious tapestries have been made on the “basse-lisse” looms of the PINTON workshops since 1867 - including the largest tapestry in the world, “Christ in Glory”, hung in Coventry Cathedral. Having worked with some of the most renowed artists of the 20th century (Pablo Picasso and Alexander Calder), our expert artisans now collaborate and weave for today’s designers and artists (Etel Adnan, Maggi Hambling, Joe Tilson).  The traditional expertise of Aubusson is and always has been focused on modernity, innovation and the imagination of the designers. Some of the most renowned artists have combined their talent with that of PINTON for the art of weaving. This art is also an industry. PINTON artisans also demonstrate industrial expertise, enabling them to fulfil orders for the world of luxury interior design. PINTON offers bespoke collections (rugs, tapestries and carpets) that can be customised by the customer or market influencer.

L’art du sur-mesure Appliquer le savoir-faire ancestral de la tradition d’Aubusson à tous les domaines de l’art textile est l’essence même de la maison PINTON. Cet héritage inestimable nourrit une expertise qui cherche à sublimer l’art du décor intérieur. Dès les années quarante, notre main-d’œuvre spécialisée a posé nos premières moquettes et tapis d’escalier dans les plus beaux immeubles haussmanniens.

Moquette & tapis d’escalier — Carpet and stair carpet

En développant cette activité, PINTON est devenu, depuis plus de trente ans, une référence dans la fabrication et la pose de moquette et tapis d’escalier sur-mesure. PINTON réalise des moquettes selon deux techniques. Sur les moquettes tuftées, nos artisans tracent à la main des motifs, qui sont ensuite mis en couleurs. Ce tuftage autorise une grande diversité dans le choix des motifs et des matières. Cette gamme de moquettes d’exception est complétée par des moquettes mécaniques que PINTON fait réaliser sur commande et dans des matières au choix. Cette technique plus automatisée, certifiée par le label qualité de PINTON, permet de gérer de grandes quantités de moquette et de s’adapter à différents budget. Les tapis d’escalier PINTON répondent aux mêmes exigences de perfection pour leur fabrication, pour leur pose et leur entretien. Leur longévité est de 18 à 25 ans. PINTON accompagne sa clientèle tout au long de son projet grâce à notre service spécialisé d’installation. —

The art of bespoke designs The very essence of the PINTON company is rooted in the age-old expertise of the Aubusson tradition of textile making. The expertise from this priceless heritage adds a touch of luxury to interior design. In the 1940s, our specialised workers fitted our first carpets and stair carpets in some of the most beautiful Hausmannian buildings.   By developing this activity over the last thirty years, PINTON has become a prestigious name in the manufacture and installation of bespoke carpet and stair runners. PINTON makes carpets using two techniques. For our tufted carpets, our artisans draw the patterns by hand. These are then coloured. This tufting technique allows us to offer a large choice of patterns and materials. Alongside this range of exceptional carpets are our machine woven carpets. PINTON makes these carpets to order, in the material of the customer’s choice. This mechanical technique, certified by the PINTON quality label, allows us to make large quantities of carpet, adapted to many budgets.   For the stair runners, PINTON guarantees the same quality in the manufacturing, installation and maintenance. These carpets last between 18 and 25 years. With our specialised installation service, PINTON works hand in hand with its customers from the conception to the hand-over of a project.

Éditions — Special editions

Après une éclipse de près d’un siècle, la tapisserie connaît un renouveau au XXème siècle grâce à des personnalités telles que Le Corbusier et Jean Lurçat, qui contribuèrent à libérer la tapisserie de son asservissement à la peinture, pour lui donner une dimension architecturale inédite. Les artistes contemporains, à la suite des modernes, ne s’y trompent pas et reconnaissent la valeur et la vibration si particulière de la tapisserie. Puisant désormais son inspiration dans la photographie, l’image de synthèse, les collages ou la peinture, la tapisserie contemporaine nourrit un dialogue constant avec les autres formes d’art et épouse tous les styles d’écriture comme autant de défis. Depuis leur création, les ateliers Pinton ont tissé les plus grands noms, de Charles Le Brun à Jean-Michel Othoniel en passant par Fernand Léger et Calder. L’on retrouve ces tapisseries au sein des plus prestigieuses collections publiques à travers le monde. Numérotés, les exemplaires des tapisseries Pinton sont garantis limités à huit exemplaires maximum, garantissant leur statut légal d’œuvre originale. — After disappearing for almost a century, the art of tapestry experienced a revival in the 20th century thanks to personalities such as Le Corbusier and Jean Lurçat. These helped to reinvent the tapestry giving it a new architectural dimension, moving away from traditional paintings. Following on from modernists, contemporary artists have also seen the value and particular energy that can come from tapestries. Drawing inspiration from photography, computer generated images, collages or paintings, contemporary tapestries are in constant dialogue with other forms of art and embrace different writing styles.  Since their creation, the Pinton workshops have woven pieces by some of the most famous artists, from Charles Le Brun to Jean-Michel Othoniel, Fernand Léger to Calder. We can find these tapestries in the most prestigious public collections around the world. Each PINTON tapestry is numbered and guaranteed to be one of a maximum of eight copies, guaranteeing their legal status as original works of art.
