Novembre Newsletter

To start I wanted to send out a big thank you to families who brought in yummy treats for our Halloween Party! We all enjoyed them! Last week we started writing sentences in our journals. This week we will start our “Brille la Chenille” program which will run the whole year long. Every week we will focus on a sound (you will see it on the calendar). On Monday we learn a poem or “comptine”, as it is called in French. On Tuesday we make a list of words that have the sound of the week. On Wednesday we make up sentences with those words. On Thursday we make up a class story and on Friday we do all the paperwork that will come home in the green folder. The children are to draw a picture of their favourite sentence and draw another one to illustrate the class story. Normally all the work will be done in class, but if you notice that it is not complete, please have your child take a few minutes to finish it at home. This is an opportunity for you to cuddle up with your child on the weekends and listen to him/her read our week’s work together. We are so proud of it! This folder will come home every Friday and should be returned every Monday. Please sign the tracking sheet (at the front of the folder) beside the comptine of the week so that I know your child has read with you. I will put a sticker beside your signature! Please look for your child’s green Brille la Chenille folder this Friday in the important bag. On Tuesday November 8th we will begin a new round of Show and Tell. The Star of the Day will be bringing home an Estimation Jar in the Star of the Day bag. You are free to fill it with any amount of one thing that we can count (i.e. pompoms, lego pieces, buttons, rocks, blocks…etc.). We will try to estimate how many objects are in the jar and then count them as a class. This is to support our “Number Sense and Numeration” unit in Math. On the calendar you will notice that each Thursday in November I am asking students to come to school dressed for a different season. This is for our science unit on seasonal and daily changes. We will be doing a special seasonal activity that day. For example on Thursday November 10th students should dress for summer (e.g. sunglasses, beach hat, t-shirt…). If students decide to wear a t-shirt or shorts they should wear something warmer overtop for when we go outside. Thank you for all the ways in which you support our French Immersion program.
