New Outfitting: Mod5 Sneak Peak

It's a new year, resolutions are being made, the holidays' excess has ended and there is nothing more to make with the left-over turkey. At a time when people are planning their year, signing up for new challenges and sheepishly walking back into the gym, Fluid is also gearing up, cleaning house and putting some awesome plans in place. A big part of Fluid's philosophy is that of great design and continued innovation. Over the past two seasons the MOD4 outfitting has truly been put through its paces by team paddlers and weekend warriors alike, and several critical areas have been identified where the design can be improved. After reviewing the MOD4 design and considering what has worked in the past, Fluid's new MOD5 outfitting has just gone into production. The MOD5 is a synthesis between the bombproof rotomoulded MOD3 design and the highly injection moulded MOD4 design, and has truly combined the best elements of both systems. Johann, one of our Marketing Jedi, snuck off into a back room of the Parys factory, with some of the prototypes and his camera, to give you a sneak peak of the new MOD5 outfitting.

Spine The MOD5 is built on a rotomolded spine and seat similar to the MOD3. This ensures that the system has minimal flex and provides the strength needed for extreme creeking. The seat is adjusted using two knob nuts located in front and behind the seat. The seat has been designed to enable effortless adjustments to the height of the seat by adding or removing foam under the seat pad. The seat padding is still made from a highly durable and extremely comfortable injection moulded EVA foam. The spine has a dedicated slot for your water bottle which is held in place with bungie cords. Two gear loops on the spine are located behind the seat to attach gear.

Seat The T pieces and elbows from the MOD4 system have been redesigned and buffed up in the correct places. These enhancements reduce flex in the system without adding unnecessary weight. The hip shims have been doubled in thickness to ensure that paddlers are able to use less shims to ensure a snug fit. The hip pads are now being made from a softer injection moulded EVA foam to ensure comfort while sitting snug in your kayak.

Hip shim attachment One of the major complaints received about the MOD4 design was the adjustable foot brace in the creekers. The system has been completely redesigned and buffed up to stand up to the most testing conditions. The

adjustable foot brace ensures that the entire diameter of the bow is filled, reducing the possibility of accidental foot entrapment, and is adjusted using a single knob nut.

Adjustable Footrest

Footrest with foam The Dope foot block has also been redesigned and now consists of only four pieces of foam. Less is definitely more in this case. The new design is easy to assemble and can be trimmed down to meet the custom needs of different paddlers.
