MX907600A OTDR Emulation Software (For MW9076 Series Optical Time Domain Reflectometer)

• Supports PC-AT Compatibles (Japanese and English Versions of Windows ® 95/98/Me, NT4.0 Workstation, 2000 Professional) • Simple Operations using Windows and Mouse • Comprehensive Report Creation from Waveform Analysis to Both Ends Measurement Reports

The MX907600A is emulation software for the MW9076 series that runs under the Windows*1 platform. At maintenance, installation and repair of optical fibers, it permits the large amount of collected data to be analyzed in detail on a personal computer back at the office and to create reports easily and efficiently. Of course the measured data can be transferred to the PC using a memory card or floppy disk, but the remote file transfer function*2 can also be used to transfer the data files recorded by the MW9076 series of OTDRs directly to the PC via an RS-232C cable. Moreover, MX907600A also supports data measured using the MW9070B *3. In addition to emulating the MW9076 series, the MX907600A software also has functions for displaying waveform differences, and for performing both ends measurement and multi-fiber batch measurement as well as detailed analyses. Furthermore, it addition to supporting output of waveform data as text files for easy analysis using spreadsheet software, the chromatic dispersion (CD) measurement results can be output as text files. A report output function makes report creation easy. Specified file events can be analyzed automatically and the analysis results for 1 to 8 waveforms printed on one page; results can also be saved as Excel files. ®

Waveform Difference Display

The same functions and operations as the MW9076 series of OTDRs are achieved by simple mouse operations. Waveform data for up to 8 waveforms can be read. In addition to automatic detection of connections and breaks (events) using the auto-search function, more detailed analysis of event positions and loss can be performed by manual measurement using 6 markers. When the same fiber is measured at different wavelengths, the positions of connections and the loss at each wavelength can be displayed simultaneously in one event table. A specified file can be printed automatically and there is also a continuous print function. Moreover, waveform data can be recorded in text format for subsequent use by spreadsheet software such as Excel.

This function is ideal for investigating aging changes in optical fibers. In the emulation mode, any two waveforms of up to eight waveforms read by the MX907600A can be selected and the difference between the two waveforms is displayed in a separate window. This function is very convenient for examining aging changes in optical fiber characteristics at fiber installation and periodic inspection.

Furthermore, the emulate function can be executed while the waveform difference is displayed, and the horizontal axis of the read waveform can be zoomed in and out and minimized to display parts of the waveform requiring more detailed analysis. This is useful in examining aging changes is a specific part of the waveform.

Both Ends Measurement

Multi-Fiber Batch Measurement

This function is for performing even more accurate measurement. When measuring an optical fiber from one end, there is a possibility that the loss of event points will be different when measured from the other end. This occurs due to the differences in the characteristics of each connected fiber. In this case, the MX907600A perform averaging the data measured from both ends and display more accurate measurement results in the event table.

This function is ideal for measuring and comparing waveforms under the same measurement conditions such as when measuring multi-fibers or when examining aging changes in the same fiber. A maximum of 200 waveforms can be displayed simultaneously, and the measurement mode, event/marker positions, event comments, IOR, and waveform display position can be changed as a batch for all waveforms. In addition, preset standard values and measured values can be compared and only measured values that exceed the standard can be extracted and displayed. A pass/fail function permits easy evaluation of multi-fibers.

In addition, a composite waveform combining the data of the waveforms measured from both ends can be displayed and manual measurements can be made on this composite waveform. Even when a dummy fiber was used at measurement, if the length of the dummy fiber is set, results can be obtained from both ends, excluding the dummy fiber.

Waveform zooming can be performed centered on a selected marker or event and all the read waveform can be adjusted to the selected waveform. This makes it easy to compare the selected waveform and other waveforms. This function is very convenient for evaluating parts of waveforms and multi-fibers.

Chromatic Dispersion Measurement

Remote File Transfer Function

This emulates the MW9076D/D1 dispersion measurement function. This function supports only chromatic dispersion measurement files created by the MW9076D/D1. It is used to measure chromatic dispersion using slight differences in events for each wavelength. The event position is set, the dispersion approximation method is selected and the delay, chromatic dispersion and dispersion slope are calculated and displayed.

Data files saved to the MW9076 series OTDR internal memory or memory card inserted in the memory slot can be transferred directly to the PC via the RS-232C interface. Furthermore, the reverse transfer of data from the PC to the OTDR is also possible. Of course, data can be transferred simply between the PC and OTDR using floppy disks and memory cards too.

MW9076 Series

Furthermore, the chromatic dispersion measurement results (delay, chromatic dispersion, dispersion slope) can be output in text file that is supported by spreadsheet software like Excel, etc. The measurement results can also be displayed in a table conforming to the ITU-T G.692 wavelength grid and output as a text file.

Operation is very simple. The transfer destination and file to be transferred are just specified at the transfer screen and then the transfer of the measurement data to the PC or MW9076 series OTDR is performed automatically. This is a very useful function when transferring large amounts of data.

4

Report Output Function This function is ideal for creating reports. The events in the specified file are analyzed automatically and the analysis results are printed. Several waveforms can be printed on one page. It is also possible to save files in Excel format.

5

The output report format can be selected from a number of different types. In particular, at both ends measurement, both ends measurement is executed automatically and a both ends measurement report can be output. If there is no event table in the specified file, auto search function is performed automatically and the event data is generated automatically.

1: At continuous printing and report output, the print spooler must have sufficient disk space or memory to handle the number of output pages. If the free capacity is insufficient, MX907600A operation may not be normal. 2: When using the multi-fiber batch measurement mode, it may be necessary to increase the memory capacity from 32 MB depending on the number of read waveforms. At output of Excel files, it may be necessary to increase the amount of memory to run Excel. The amount of additional memory depends on the Excel version and the number of files to be processed. 3: The MW9070B data can only use files that have been saved by MW9070B software version 3.0 or later.
