Post-Doc position in:

Modelling of sound propagation in urban areas Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées – Centre de Nantes – France

This post-doctoral position enters within the framework of a national project that received the approval of the National Research Agency, entitled “Assessment of the environmental impacts of an urban mobility plan (PDU) and of their socio-economic consequences: methodology developments and tests with the PDU of Nantes Metropole”, and directed by the Institute on Urban Sciences and Techniques (IRSTV, CNRS/FR-2488) The main objective of the post-doctoral position is to develop simple models of sound propagation in urban areas that can be introduced in a Geographical Information System (GIS), called OrbisGIS. OrbisGIS is dedicated to the scientific modelling and simulation, and is developed by the IRSTV. The main idea is to simplify classical noise propagation models (like NF S 31-133) or to propose new models (empirical models), in order to carry out city noise mapping without long computational time, and to evaluate the effect of the modification of an urban mobility plan on noise. A first experience in the field of outdoor noise propagation modelling, as well as on geographical information systems, can be an asset, but is not essential. Competences in numerical simulation and programming would also be appreciated. Employment is expected mid-2009. The salary is 2260 euros/month guaranteed for 18 months (1800€/month all charges deducted).
