” MOBILE ROBOTICS-A DRDO PERSPECTIVE ABSTRACT” Mr. R. Sitaram, DRDO, India Mobile Robots are set to play a very major role in the realization of future battlefield platforms including unmanned /autonomous air / ground /under water vehicles. A classical application for unmanned ground vehicle has been the disposal of hazardous explosives. In the military context, the new generation of fast, agile mobile robots is expected to perform such hazardous and other tasks as surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics support and even enemy attack. These modern new generation robots are required to be built with sophisticated on board “intelligence” to efficiently perform the above tasks. The intelligence component comprises of an integrated GPS, Image /video processing, Laser ranging etc and advanced algorithms embedded into an onboard computer. A number of DRDO labs are working on different classes of tracked, wheeled under water, unmanned /autonomous vehicles. The talk will give an overview of some of these initiatives.
