À la naissance de la Ligue junior A du Québec, en 1969, Maurice Filion agit à titre d’entraîneur en chef des Remparts de Québec pendant trois saisons de 1969-70 à 1971-72.
With the birth of the Quebec Junior A Hockey League in 1969, Maurice Filion was the Head Coach of the Quebec Remparts for three seasons from 1969-70 to 1971-72.
Il a développé et dirigé les talents de Guy Lafleur, André Savard et Jacques Richard.
During his three years behind the bench, he developed star players such as Guy Lafleur, André Savard and Jacques Richard.
Il a mené l’édition 1970-71 à un dossier de 54 victoires et seulement 7 revers incluant une nulle en 62 matchs.
In 1970-71, he led the team to 54 wins against only 7 losses including one tie in 62 games.
Il a clôturé cette saison avec une conquête de la Coupe Memorial face aux champions de la Ligue de l’Ontario, les Black Hawks de St-Catharines.
During those playoffs, he guided his team to the Memorial Cup Trophy by defeating the Ontario Hockey League champions, the St. Catharines Black Hawks.
Il a terminé sa carrière dans les rangs juniors avec une fiche de 130 victoires contre 46 revers et quatre verdicts nuls en 180 parties en plus de remporter deux championnats (1969-70 et 1970-71).
His Major Junior coaching career record stands at 130 wins, 46 losses and 4 ties in 180 games – with two League Championship titles (1969-70 & 1970-71).

D’abord entraîneur, il est ensuite directeur gérant des Nordiques de Québec au cours de leur passage dans l’Association mondiale de hockey (AMH). Il occupe ce poste lorsque l’équipe remporte la coupe Avco en 1977.
When the Quebec Nordiques were a part of the World Hockey Association, he was the Head Coach and then the General Manager of the team, which won the Avco Cup in 1977.
En 1979, les Nordiques de Québec font leur entrée dans la Ligue nationale de hockey (LNH). Il aura été le directeur gérant des Nordiques jusqu’en 1988. Il fait un retour au sein de la LHJMQ en 1992 à titre de préfet de discipline, poste qu’il occupe pendant treize ans.
In 1979, the Quebec Nordiques joined the ranks of the National Hockey League. He was the General Manager of the franchise until 1988. In 1992, he returned to the QMJHL as its Disciplinary Prefect, a position he occupied for thirteen years.
