Making an Origami Fish Start with a square of paper. Crease diagonally, horizontally and vertically, unfolding each time.

Turn the square on a point, and fold the two side corners down to the bottom corner. The top corner will fold down to the bottom corner. Fold flat.

You should have a smaller square like so. The colour side should be exposed. photos, text and layout by fishy. email: [email protected]

Lay flat with the bottom corner from before at bottom. Lift the first layer of paper and fold to match the centre crease.

Do the same on the other side, so that the two meet when held down.

Rotate the top corner to the bottom (180°). Fold the corner up to the centre. The fold should match up with the top of the two sides you just folded in.

Rotate back around so and let the three folds open back up. You should have something that looks like so.

Grab the top sheet of the bottom corner, and lift it up. Pull the corner up so that the sheet folds along the top crease, which will cause the side creases to fold as well.

Continue to fold the sides in and the bottom corner up. The sides should come together and meet in the centre like so.

Without opening the side folds, bring the top corner back down, folding once again along the top crease.

Flip the square over, and repeat the process on the opposite side. The photo shows the completing fold of the opposite side.

You should now have a “kite”-shape. Holding the shape like so, find the interior flap on the right, and fold that point up. This step is tricky, and may require some practice.

Turn the paper over and repeat. When both sides have been done, the paper should look like this from both sides.

Open up the bottom corner like so, and fold upwards.

Fold the top corner to the right so that the left edge lines up with the centre crease. Unfold and repeat in the other direction. Unfold.

You will now have two creases running up the top flap. Pinch along the centre like so, such that the flap sticks straight up. Fold along the creases.

Fold the resulting point down to the right, again lining up with the centre crease.

Next, fold the point back to the left, but at about a 45° angle from the centre crease.

Flip the paper over, and repeat the last five steps. The two points should point up like so.

Fold the two sides to meet, like so. Crease the top and bottom points as shown on right.

Unfold the last two creases, and slide a finger into the top point like so.

Grab the top point and fold it backwards, folding along the crease you just made. This step is also tricky, as you are inverting the entire point.

When you flatten the point, it should look like this photo. The point comes down and covers part of the body of the fish. Flip over and repeat with remaining point.

Your completed fish should look like this! You might want to crease the folds with a thumbnail. Name your fish something good.
