The Lot, lying a little to the south of the Dordogne, is a patchwork of glorious sunflowers, tobacco plantations and walnut groves. The river Lot winds its way through rolling hills, emerald meadows mingling with forests, and limestone gorges dotted with caves, then weaves a blue ribbon through some of the oldest vineyards in France. It is a diverse region, with inland beaches, and pretty bastide medieval towns, with castles and chateaux perched on cliff tops. Warm days begin in Mid-April, by May the meadows are a riot of wild flowers, July and August are hot, whilst in September and October the warm sun melts away the morning mist. Spring and summer are unusually mild and the southern blue skies of summer mean long hot days and warm evenings. All in all, the Lot is a truly wonderful region to discover and enjoy for a short or long break.
