The pilot centers

• Creation in 2000 through the science Academy initiative Why a pilot centers’ network?

Encourage and spread out local initiatives - To facilitate innovation by proposing a functioning’s frame and development’s supports - To support teachers in an inquiry-based science education Mission : to set up an original and innovative system to promote science education and to support the invested schools A 3 years agreement between the Science Academy and the main local partners.

Common objectives of the pilot centers To support teachers to practice inquiry-based science education in schools To disseminate good practices To create a network with local actors to mutualize skills and resources. To work together on projects (science notebook, resources production, assessment grid, thematic modules…) To welcome foreign delegations and participate to trainings abroad.

The pilot centres network

In 2009 : 15 centres (2500 classes)  30 000 pupils (more than 50 % in difficult educational area)

In 2010 : 20 centres  New centres: Paris, Souillac, Strasbourg, La Seyne S/Mer, Dunkerque…

The bases of a pilot center

Succes factors - A shared conviction around the stakes of the project - An institutional will - An effective mobilization of the local actors - A clear agreement on human beings and financials means - An institutional support brought to the teachers -A strategic development plan -An agreement to validate the commitments
