After meeting with cellist Natasha the match was lit that would later light the fire for establishing Lapwings' unique organic sound. With the addition of Klari (Germany), Marco (Italy) and JB (France), Lapwings is now a 5-piece indie rock band from Berlin with musicians stemming from different walks of life, whose name derives from the folkloric bird of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs representing newcomers to a foreign land. “La Ligne d’en Bas” (“The Bottom Line”) is a protest song in French about the line we crossed a long time ago, which led to the genocide of millions of innocents during World War II. It is the line we might cross by following the hatred peddled by populism and alternative facts. La ligne d’en bas is an animated music video depicting the sad situation of refugees and placing us in the future in the middle of an hypothetic World War III. With strong political lyrics and vocals similar to Noir Désir and Saez, Lapwings leaves the pop folk of their first EP  behind them and call to revolution and rebellion, with a powerful rock song and a dark atmosphere. For this single, they worked with producer Enda Gallery and recorded in a Berlin studio (who previously welcomed Nick Cave and Korn). The animated music video created by Joscha Thelosen portrays a sensitive topic with detailed visuals and childish drawings. It takes you in a realistic, shocking visual story and a hypothetical future which makes you wonder… The band just launched a crowdfunding to back up this project (and 5% of the donation is given to a NPO for refugees): https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/our-music-video-against-racism-and-populism-rockanimation#/

Lyrics: THE BOTTOM LINE (translated) On a makeshift boat, he jeopardises his life, dreams of a better future, for him and his family. Behind he leaves his pride, his people, the bombs and the tombs of friends who weren’t as lucky as him. Solid barriers ahead of him, racists comments everywhere on the net, Floods of hatred in the press, stupidity is king, while his world collapses.

Time for a rebellion, for a revolution, there is only one small step to cross the bottom line, the line to a different time… Fear and hatred feed the game of that fascist wearing a mask of beauty. Wearing the star of David, fantasy of one psycho, was once the law. Would you believe that blond girl with her sharp teeth, daughter of the other freak?! Coluche* for president, that would have been fun, but her it will be more of a punishment. Populist reactions to fight extremist bombing….She now apparently cares for homeless people. But remember the story of that little girl in red: false-faced innocence, machiavelic strategy. Time for a rebellion, for a revolution, there is only one small step to cross the bottom line, the line to a different time. *Coluche was a stand-up comedian who ran for president in France in the 80’s.
