Main Topics: • Landscape and Human evolution • Coastal Environments • Terrestrial processes and environment • Geoarchaeological practices and methods • Archaeoseismology Aim: Landscape encompasses both the conceptual and the physical, bringing together themes, usually separated, for understanding human history. The landscape scientific approach includes several features that may be regarded as an advance over studies concerned solely with settlement patterns. Using information and data derived from geomorphological studies, GIS analyses and remote sensing, it is now possible to at least attempt reconstructing the entire formational history of the landscape, rather than only that of the settlement patterns. Archaeologists have begun to consider the past landscapes with theoretical methods, combined with multidisciplinary approaches on landscape formation and transformation, during time. Recent developments in geomorphology, micromorphology, sedimentology, climatology, dating and estimations of potential global climatic and sea level changes combined with the archaeological findings, provide the basis for an approximate reconstruction of landscapes and paleoenvironments.
