Jorvik Viking Center Jorvik Viking Centre is a famous museum and archaeological site where the Vikings used to live in the 10th century AD. It is situated in the city of York in the northeast of England. In 1974 and after years of excavating the place, archaeologists discovered the remains of wooden buildings, of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik as it stood more than 1,000 years ago. They also found coins, skeletons, tools, utensils and many other objects made of gold, silver, glass, leather and iron. Archaeology is a fascinating activity. Archaeologists excavate and study the remains of ancient civilisations to learn about how people ate, wore, traded and built their houses. To carry out their diggings, they use different tools such as: a trowel, a brush, a measuring tape, a shovel, and a pick. The City of York A medieval city situated in the northeast of England. Built by the romans then invaded by the Vikings, the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans. The city is known for its medieval streets called “the Shambles” with 15th century houses.
