This album was made possible by the generous help of The Toronto Arts Council; by a January 2017 residency at Studios of Key West; and foremost, by the sundry support of Jack and Kay Brooks. Thank you. You are loved.

Track 7 inspired in part by the writings of Andrei Platonov as published by NYRB; as well, by the memoirs of Alexander Herzen, My Past and Thoughts, tr. by Constance Garnett and revised by Humphrey Higgens. Track 11 is based on the line: “Keep your mind in hell, and despair not.” The adage is taken from the writings of Saint Silouan the Athonite, as recorded by Archimandrite Sophrony (Sakharov) and tr. by Rosemary Edmonds. Track 11 owes much of its origin to the memoir of Gillian Rose, Love’s Work, published by NYRB. This album’s ‘circular’ or ‘crown of songs’ form was inspired by John Donne’s La Corona sonnet sequence. We acknowledge the [financial] support of the Government of Canada.
