The DATASENSOR distribution network has now reached a worldwide presence thanks to the numerous international partners, thus it isn’t a Summer holiday, like in Italy, for all DS NEWS readers. However, it is for everyone time for the midyear balances, like as for DATASENSOR which presents in this edition the results of a definitively positive semester. Also with this edition of DS NEWS, NEWS we will try to give information and examples useful to successively promote DATASENSOR DATASENSOR products. You will find two useful tables for the cross-over from S5 to S50 series and from S18 to S51 series. The S50 and S51 versatile and cost-effective series, confirm infact themeselves as the best tools to gain shares also in difficult market situations, as demonstrated by our QAP Automat Medicion Medicion. COMPANY INFORMATION DATASENSOR midyear results The first 2002 semester of DATASENSOR SpA has just concluded with a definitively positive result, aligned with the budget and with a turnover increase of more than 10 % with respect to the same last year period. The element which has most contributed to the good result in the first half of the year is the introduction of new products, in particular the new SAFEasy™ SAFEasy™ SE safety light curtains series and the new M18 tubular sensors of the S50 and S51 series. The importance of the new products (those introduced in the last three years) on the turnover has now reached 37 % and should reach at the end of the year the forecasted 43 %, confirming the validity of the range evolution strategy. %

Interesting is also the turnover share gained by the distribution network, both in Italy as abroad, bringing the ratio between export and Italian market to about 50 % / 50 %. It is however important to highlight that the DATASENSOR results are certainly in countertendency respect to the actual market trend; this however must not decrease the effort or reduce the strain for market performance. The doubts that dominate the world scenery remain infact present, factors that can menace the final result, as already occurred in the second 2001 semester.

COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES CrossCross-over from S18 series to S51 series The introduction activity of the new S51 series as the replacement of the S18 series, as well as for new customer applications, has now reached its apex and has found the best collaboration from the major DATASENSOR DATASENSOR distributors as well as the main customers. The following table with the correspondence between the S18 and S51 series can be used to facilitate the cross-over activity.

Please remember that the models of the S51 series are perfectly compatible with the corresponding models of the S18 series, as far as the performance and mechanical dimensions are concerned, but with the exception of the connection configuration. The S18 models can be infact configured and according to the different 4-wire connection can operate in the dark or light mode and with NPN or PNP output. Whereas, the S51 models have a standard 3-wire configuration according to the EN 60947-5-2 standard, and thus the NPN or PNP version has to be ordered according to necessity, while the dark (input connected to –Vdc) or light (input connected to +Vdc) operating mode can be selected using the specific input. The dark/light selection input can remain not connected in order to respect the standard configuration; in this case the proximity models operate automatically in the light mode, while the retroreflex and through beam models operate in the dark mode.

PRODUCT NEWS New S50S50-A00 and S50S50-C21 models DATASENSOR announces the new models of the S50 series with retroreflex and proximity optic functions, developed specifically for the replacement of the corresponding S5 models. The optic function of the S50S50-A00 model corresponds to the S5S5-A4 nonpolarised retroreflex version without adjustment, with an operating distance ranging from 0.1 to 4 meters with the R2 reflector and up to 5 meters with the R5 reflector. Whereas the optic function of the S50S50-C21 model corresponds to the S5S5C35 diffuse proximity with an operating distance that can be adjusted from 1 to 35 cm (the maximum detection distance reaches 40 cm with excess gain 1 on white target with 90% reflection). The new A00 and C21 models of the S50 series are available both in the flat plastic housing as well as in the cylindrical metal housing, in either the cable or M12 connector versions, but both only with axial optics. For the replacement of the S5 retroreflex model with radial optics, we suggest to use the S50S50-PRPR-x-B01B01-xx model, while the 35 cm diffuse proximity model with adjustment and radial optics of S5 series corresponds actually to the S50S50-PRPR-x-C01C01-xx model. The compatibility between the S50 models and the corresponding S5 versions is guaranteed as far as the detection performances and mechanicdimensional characteristics are concerned. It is important, however, to pay particular attention to the different connection configuration existing between the two series. For the replacement of the S5 sensors with configurable connection (NPN/PNP and dark/light) it is necessary to select the correct version of the NPN or PNP S50 model, while the dark/light operating mode can be selected connecting the load to the normally closed output (NC) or to the normally open output (NO) according to the optic function.
