Foy-Nôtre-Dame, Belgium, December 25th 1944 Story : Began on December 16th, the Bulge takes the Americans completely by surprise. In the sector of the 5. Panzer Army, the Germans seem to be able to reach the Meuse river. However ,the fierce resistance of the GIs, the arrival of allied reinforcements and the huge logistical problems of the Germans compromise their chance of victory. On December 22nd, the General Von Lauchert, commanding the 2. Panzer Division, throws his recon battalion towards Dinant. On the Meuse river, the English troops of the 29th Armoured Brigade awaits it firmly. In addition, coming from the north, the American 2nd Armored Division, Hell on Wheels, flanks the most advanced German units entrenched in the villages of Foy and Conneux. They suffer the intense fire from both the artillery and the Air force. On December 25th, while these units haven’t received any supply nor gasoline, the allies attack. Near the village of Foy, the advanced units of the 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion are under the fire of the 2. Panzer. A company immediately engage the Germans. Another one is sent as reinforcement and meet the A company after having destroyed an antitank gun. The fight is a complete success for the Americans. They capture 150 German soldiers including Captain von Böhm, commanding officer of the battalion as well as twenty vehicles which have run out of gasoline. On the same day, the Panzer Aufklärung Ableitung 2, reduced to a few men, is crossed out of the German battle order.
