Disclaimer : This howto is only for personal tests and any other usage is against the IBM license agreement. IBM does not support HMC other than one they provide -type 7042-CRx-
IBM pSeries hardware (POWER5/6 systems) use an external Hardware Management Console to communicate with the POWER Hypervisor.
This Hardware Management Console is a dedicated, specialized xSeries server on wich run a IBM Modified version of a SuSE Linux with Licensed Code of IBM.
The goal here is to have for a test environment an HMC that is not tied to hardware type.
There is two protection :
- One in initrd.gz of the first DVD - Other is /usr/sbin/dmidecode once installed
