1 Introduction The Historical Skin Mod aims to change original textures and environment of the game Company of heroes / Opposing Fronts into a more historical looking one.

2 Version Status Version : Release date : Creator :

0.36 July 26, 2008 Rodolphe QUEMERAIS

3 Model changes 3.1 Concept of the mod The Axis/Wehrmacht (from genuine COH) faction will be changed from Wehrmacht to Waffen SS because units available for this faction suit very well to what really were SS divisions in Normandy or Holland. For this mod, I choose the 10th Panzer SS Division “Frundsberg”. The Panzer Elite will represent Wehrmacht units like those from the Panzer Lehr division, or other heavily mechanized German divisions like 116th Panzer Div. The Commonwealth faction will represent members of the 7thth armoured division.

3.2 Opposing Front / Fallschirmjager

Historical Notes: In Normandy or Holland, Luftwaffe fallschirmjager were wearing splinter B camo smock and brown/green trousers. Skin notes: This skin has been created using a photo of a real fallschirmjager jacket for the main part of the chest. For the other parts of the jacket, a splinter B pattern has been created from a pattern found on internet. This one has been resized and colour adjusted to match the chest ‘photo’ part. The tent worn in the back is changed to Splinter A camo pattern.

3.3 Opposing Front / Luftwaffe field division soldier

Original version of the luftwaffe field soldier

Modified version with luftwaffe splinter B camo

Historical Notes: The Luftwaffe field division soldiers could wear either Luftwaffe blue grey or field grey color uniforms especially when uniforms were supplied by Wehrmacht. They were also using camo jackets with splinter B pattern. Occasionally, field division soldiers could use the same jacket as the one from the falschirmjager. Skin Notes: For this model, the cap and trousers have been set to blue grey. The jacket worn is Splinter B which was only used by Luftwaffe. The tent worn in the back is changed to Splinter A camo pattern.

3.4 Opposing Front / TankBuster

New versions for the TankBuster compared to the genuine one on the left. Historical Notes: Wehrmacht used different camo patterns and colours especially at the end of war. This skin change is supposed to chow a hooded smock with M1931 splinter pattern. Skin Notes: Colour of the trousers has been changed to a more field grey. Belt buckle, collar patches have been changed to more real one. Helmet is paint with a 3 colour camo which was usual in 1944 and finally the smock is turned to a splinter A pattern scheme.

3.5 Opposing Front / Hetzer

New versions for the Hetzer compared to the genuine one on the left.

Historical Notes: From 1943, germans used dark yellow instead of grey over their vehicles for the base colour. Over this colour, several patterns could be applied using dark-red brown and olive green. Local commanders were free to change patterns and to choose to use or not brown or green colours. More over, paint was applied mixed with petrol or water so that depending on the odd painting/petrol colours could seem more or less dark.

Art COH engine, HSM Hetzer’s skin and post work with Photoshop.

3.6 Opposing Front / Marder III

Skin Notes: 3 colours camo applied with team colour markings removed.

3.7 COH/Opposing Front / Flakvierling 20mm

3.8 Opposing Front / Panzer Elite– Panzer Grenadier

left, the genuine PG – right, the modified one. Skin Notes: Jacket of the PanzerGrenadier comes from the grenadier’s jacket of the COH (vanilla) skin Mod of Halftrack (pseudo on Relic forum). Helmet cover has been modified to show usual Zehltbahn 31 pattern (diff, nrm, ocs modified). The black scarf has been erased as well as gloves. Trousers have been turned to feldgrau.

3.9 Opposing Front / Kettenrad Skin Notes: This Kettenrad shows a 1943 usual 3 colours camo pattern with a sand yellow base and green and brown stripes.

3.10 Opposing Front / Jagdpanther

3.11 Opposing Front / Sdkfz 221/222/223

Skin Notes: 3 colour camo applied. Still ID numbers to change.

3.12 Opposing Front / Sdkfz 250/ 01, 03, 07, 10

Skin Notes: Different skins, one for each kind of Half-Track. From 0.26 version, the “base” SdKfz 250 has been tuned:

3.13 PE / Panzer IV

3.14 CoH / Pak38

3.15 vCOH / Pioneer

Notes: The standard german sapper has been turned to a Waffen SS one. Changes are : - peadot pattern trousers; - oakleaf pattern helmet cover; - zehltbahn (tent part) with another variant of oakleaf pattern; - MP40 ammo pouch changed to a late war model; - Belt buckle changed to a waffen SS model; - Use of a modified ‘Halftrack’ (Relic Forum pseudo) jacket; - SS collar symbols added.

3.16 vCOH Pz IV

Notes: 3.17 vCOH Sd.Kfz. 251

Notes:

This HT is representing one of the 10th SS PZ. DIV. “Frundsberg”

3.18 OF / Tommy

Historical Notes: This tommy has been changed to represent a soldier member of the 7th armoured division which fought in Normandy and Holland. The new skin shows the brownish uniform and green webbing as brits soldiers were wearing from D-Day.

3.19 Opposing Front / Wirblewind(PE)

3.20 Bren Carrier

Skin Notes:

The skin colour has been turned to bronze green commonly used for British armoured vehicles. New markings show a vehicle from the 7th armoured division that fought in Normandy and Holland in 1944.

3.21 Tetrach

Skin Notes: The skin is based on an historical picture from a tetrarch of the 6th airborne division.

3.22 Nebelwerfer

3.23 Stuart

Skin Notes:

This Stuart wears the basic “bronze green” used by brits troops. Further markings will be added on turret sides in next patch.

5 Technical Notes This Mod has been realised with Corsix Mod Tool and Photoshop. Skins are extracted from the ww2Art.sga file from Company of Heroes with Corsix. Skin’s format is originally *.rgd file. Actually, ww2Art.sga is a compressed file containing sub-directories in which are the textures. For exemple, fallschirmjager texture is in data/models/races/panzerelite/soldiers/sharedtexture. Corsix allows to convert *.rgd to *.dds. *.dds files can be imported in Photoshop using a plug-in found on NVidia web site. Once opened in Photoshop, skins can be modified. Once done, the *.dds files can be converted back to *.rgd. To use the mod online, a new ww2Art.sga file needs to be created with the sgapacker tool from Corsix.

5.1 Installation: Since 2.30 patch has been applied, only modification of the ww2Art.sga file is possible for an online game. Get tutorial at : http://rodolphe.quemerais.free.fr/cms/ BEWARE: Changing ww2art.sga and AttribArchive.sga prevents any further Relic patch to be applied. Make a copy of this file before any modification.

6 Miscellaneous: 6.1 Thanks: Thanks to: - Corsix for tool and to Nordland for informations on Luftwaffe units; - My wife who’s patient enough to let me work on those skins; - Particular thanks to Monkeys, Lethal Dosage and Anykey on Relic forum for critics and advises; - Shaverman on Relic Forum; - To everybody who gave me useful advises on Relic Forum.
