1.How does WCG Agent works ? It works by using only your free CPU's resources. Meaning, if you use 20% of your CPU power, it will use the last 80% by default. If you launch something else and then use 30%, it will automatically and immediatly use only the last 70%. The problem is that your CPU will be used at 100% all the time if you always let the software run. Consequently, your CPU will heat up, that's why we give some advices

Use a software to check the temperature of your computer. For example you can use Sandra 2005. You can find it on www.download.com

If you have any problems with temperature getting too high, go to WCG forum for help wcgrid.org/forums

Do not always run WCG agent at 100%

➢ You can schedule the program to run (or not) anytime ➢ You can use the software only as screensaver ➢ Launch it when you want ➢ Use threadmaster to determine how much CPU power can be used by the agent

2.Threadmaster A) What is ThreadMaster ? For the use of the WCG software without fearing anything about your CPU, you can control and limit its use. That is the purpose of Threadmaster and we strongly advise you to use it.

B) How to use ThreadMaster ? a) Installation Download and install Threadmaster at http://bednorz.uni2.net/anyland/threadmaster/download.htm (after unzipping click on install.cmd)

b) How to set Threadmaster in registry

Go into StartRun, then type net stop threadmaster in order to stop Threadmaster while you are fixing parameters.

Settings are done in the registry. Go into StartRun and type Regedit

In : Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ThreadMaster\Parameters\Applications Click on EditNewString Value

Name the new string value WCGrid_Rosetta.exe and type Enter

Double click on this new string value, and enter the percentage of the maximum use wanted for the software (for example, for 50% type 50), then click on OK

c) Definition of the CPU used by other programs You need to go into: Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ThreadMaster\Parameters in order to adjust the value of CPUThresholdPct. By default, the value is 15, meaning each of your program will be allowed to use at most 15% of the CPU power (which can cause problems for antivirus, games, etc). In order to avoid this issue, double-click on CPUThresholdPct and enter the value 99 then click OK It's also possible to go into : Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ThreadMaster\Parameters in order to modify the value MainSampleTime (just under CPUThresholdPct). Its value can be from 10 to 100s. This value define the time that Threadmaster will take to adjust the CPU utilization to the value you have entered. By default, it's 30 seconds (so by default, the WCG Agent will make your CPU working at 100% during 30 seconds before being controlled by Threadmaster). To modify it, you just need to double click on MainSampleTime and enter the wanted value between 10 and 100

Once settings are done, go into StartRun, type net start threadmaster in order to restart Threadmaster. Wait a few seconds and check if WCGrid_Rosetta.exe is limited to the wanted percentage (open the task manage ctrl+alt+del, go to processes and check WCGrid_Rosetta.exe )

d) Why do I choose CPUThreSholdPct at 99 and not 100 ? According to our experience, it seems that the control of WCGrid_Rosetta.exe works at 99, but not at 100. However, this difference being very negligible, you shouldn't see any difference.
