The idea of race, that is to say, calculating with race, arises out of the experience of being as subjectivity and is nothing political. Racial-breeding is one of sovereignty’s means of self-affirmation. This idea corresponds to the interpretation of being as “life,” which means as “dynamics.” Racial-hygiene is a power-like measure. Thus, it can just as soon be switched on as off. In its application and promulgation, it depends on the status quo of power and sovereignty. Racial-hygiene is in no case an “ideal” in itself, for it would then have to lead to abstaining from power-claims and would have to drive a leaving valid of all ‘biological’ predispositions. Therefore, strictly speaking, every race-theory contains already the thought of a racial-superiority. The superiority is founded in different ways, but always upon such things as what the ‘race’ has achieved, the achievement being subordinate to the standards of ‘culture’ and the like. But how, if the latter, calculated out of the narrow perspective of racial-thinking, is only a product of race. (The circle of subjectivity). Here the self-forgotten circle of all subjectivity shines forth, the circle which contains, not a metaphysical determination of the Ego, but rather, of all of humanity in its relation to beings and to itself. The metaphysical foundation of racial thinking is not biologism, but rather the subjectivity, to be thought metaphysically, of all being of beings (the extent of the overcoming of the essence of metaphysics and of modern meta-physics in particular). (Thinking too roughly in all refutations of biologism: therefore futile.)
