En Afrique du Sud, lutter contre le virus du sida Depuis 2000, BIC Afrique du Sud dispose d’un programme pour combattre le VIH/SIDA, dans ce pays particulièrement touché par le virus. Cette initiative est gérée par une clinique interne et par un groupe d’éducateurs composé de salariés de l’entreprise, formés chaque année. Elle comporte trois volets : l’éducation des salariés pour laquelle des moyens nombreux et variés sont mobilisés ; des consultations ; le dépistage volontaire pour tout salarié, permanent ou temporaire et un programme de santé. Pour les salariés séropositifs, BIC Afrique du Sud prend en charge la majorité des dépenses médicales, ainsi 100 % des salariés qui demandent un traitement antirétroviral peuvent en bénéficier. Deux nouvelles initiatives sont venues compléter le programme en 2012 : un test d’insuffisance à la Vitamine D3 pour tous les salariés atteints du virus, ainsi que l’utilisation d’un traitement prophylactique contre la tuberculose, la maladie la plus meurtrière pour les personnes vivant avec le virus HIV et l’ostéoporose, également fréquente chez ces sujets. En 2012, ce programme, et les ”Wellness Days“, journées dédiées tout au long de l’année, ont permis à 69 personnes de faire le test. Depuis 2009, les éducateurs travaillent sur deux enjeux clés pour la réussite du programme : la lutte contre la stigmatisation sociale et la crainte des résultats des tests, qui sont encore trop souvent des freins au dépistage. En 2012, ces éducateurs ont centré leurs actions d’éducation en groupe sur la transmission du virus et notamment la question controversée de l’allaitement maternel. Dans le prolongement de la journée annuelle contre le SIDA, les journées de sensibilisations portent un « Objectif zéro » simple mais ambitieux : zéro infection, zéro discrimination, zéro décès dû au SIDA.
