Mission Statement The Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society (EDFAS) fosters education and communication in the failure analysis community, working for technology advancement and the improved performance and reliability of devices and materials for the electronic industry. The EDFAS Board and Committees work in concert to meet the needs of its growing membership base.

Structure • EDFAS is an affiliate society of ASM – EDFAS governed by a Board of Directors – EDFAS president reports to ASM Trustees • ASM membership is NOT required for EDFAS members – only ASM affiliate society with this option – membership included with ISTFA registration • Committees used to implement EDFAS programs – Event, Education, Membership, Website, EDFA, Publications, Nominations

Member Benefits • Subscription to the society's magazine, Electronic Device Failure (EDFA, formally EDFAN) • EDFAS website and email discussion group, which helps members to share with other members • Special pricing when registering for the ISTFA conference and exposition in the future • Members-only Discounts and savings on publications, software, and educational courses • Personal service opportunities – through EDFAS committees

ISTFA remains excellent annual flagship event on-line abstract submission for streamlining all electronic conference and seminar presentations coordination of “Best Paper Exchange Program” with IPFA (Singapore) 2000 (26th) ISTFA in Bellevue (Seattle), WA – best attended ISTFA yet

• Opportunities – co-sponsorships with other relevant events and organizations – additional events to target new/existing profile areas

• Issues/Challenges – continues to subsidize the majority of other EDFAS activities – 2001 economy may effect attendance

Education • Successes – Two day ISTFA Seminars continued popularity – Regional Seminars on AFM and FIB

• Opportunities – remains primary product opportunity

• Issues/Challenges – development of new offerings for education – the economy

Membership • Successes – goal of 1,000 members by year-end 2000 reached (following ISTFA) – initiating industry champions program – photo contest for ISTFA 2001

• Opportunities – growth via new profile areas – member recognition

• Issues/Challenges – – – –

Publications • Successes – 2001 Desk Reference Supplement published in time for ISTFA ’01 – ISTFA Proceedings – on-line manuscript submission to streamline production

• Opportunities – expanding advertising base to help positive financial performance – FA literature is limited

• Issues/Challenges – consideration of electronic delivery – Desk Reference published every three years; continued off-year updates – expanding opportunities for other types of material

Website - www.EDFAS.org • Successes – Website updated in spring of 2001 – all paper submissions by electronic means – Web Discussion Group; (40% of EDFAS members w/emails) in the group

• Opportunities – committee considering additional enhancements – vendors interest in ad space

• Issues/Challenges – limited resources to help expedite

EDFA Magazine • Successes – Quarterly newsletter converted to a magazine for November 01 – popular publication with a diverse mixture of FA related topics and forums – new features added as benefit to the FA community

• Opportunities – non-conference forum for communication to the FA community – power education tool

• Issues/Challenges – significant, continued effort required – limited time for key individuals

Nominations • Successes – new committee formed, recommendations in progress

• Opportunities – greater recognition for outstanding EDFAS members – voice on the direction and development of ASM and EDFAS activities

• Issues/Challenges – locating qualified individuals who can accept the time commitments – new EDFAS society (3 years old), some qualified candidates do not have the 5+ year minimum of ASM membership for consideration of certain awards
