A Dong-Hanh scholar in 2003, Bach Ha was awarded, in 2005, an EU Erasmus grant, towards the funding of her 2-year MSc course in France and Sweden. She is now doing a PhD in collaboration with the French Atomic Authority (CEA) in Marcoule, France.

Born in a poor family, Trinh Thuy Loan has continuously tried to overcome her difficulties and obtained good results. Throughout secondary school, she often was head of her class. Her hard work was rewarded by a bronze medal at the « 30 April » Biology Olympiad and a second prize in the Ho Chi Minh City Biology Contest. She received a Dong-Hanh scholarship in 2002-2003. After graduating in 2007 from the prestigious Polytechnic Institute of Ho Chi Minh City with a high level engineering degree in Material Technology, Thuy Loan is now a product quality manager for Quang-Trung, a software design company in Vietnam.

Dong-Hanh was founded and kept developing, thanks to the continuous hard work and contribution of many Vietnamese studying in France. Seven years later, Dong-Hanh is a well established charity and is globally considered as one of the most efficient associations towards the support of Vietnamese impoverished students.
The scholarship awarded by Dong-Hanh is worth 1,500,000 VNð (60£), and is received twice a year by the selected students, attending courses in 7 universities in Hanoi, Da-Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Dong-Hanh is also developping a scheme to help impoverished high-school students towards the preparation of the university entrance examinations
07/2001 : founding of Dong-Hanh in France, 17 scholarships awarded to students of the Polytechnic Institute of Ho Chi Minh City. 2002 : inclusion of Hanoi universities in the scheme. 2003 : scholarships awarded to high-school students in Hue, Khanh-Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City and Ca-Mau. 2004 : scholarships awarded to students of the Da-Nang Polytechnic Institute. 2007 : the 1000th scholarship is awarded. 02/2008 : Dong-Hanh becomes a legal entity in France. 228 210

The selection process has two major phases. First, the Dong-Hanh representatives collect applications in universities and high-schools, helped by local student support associations. The best ones are sent to France, where the Dong Hanh panel awards the scholarship to the most meriting applicants.

In a still emerging but fast developing country like Vietnam, students have to overcome even more obstacles in order to attend university, among which high inflation or rising inequalities. The help provided by Dong-Hanh thus plays a key role in their building of a better future.

Since its foundation, Dong-Hanh awarded 1135 scholarships (a total amount of approximately 60,000£) to outstanding students facing financial difficulties. The charity brought not only material assistance but also moral support, thus becoming a “true friend” for Vietnamese students.
