Dear friends,

October 18, 2011

We hope that you are doing well after what has been, I imagine, a full fall. We appreciate your prayers for our traveling back to France. After several difficulties getting on the plane, we made it back safely, though late, to France! We were so glad to make it back to our house! We had less than a week to get over jet lag, get the house in order, prepare school supplies, and go to the pediatrician check-up with Nathanaël, the orthodontist with Zacharie… But after that we were all pleased with how the start back to school went. Gabrielle likes her new teacher and is with all her friends in class. She is doing piano again with much enthusiasm, and taking dance like last year. She is also happy to do English in school twice a week. Zacharie is proud to take the bus all alone to Jr High. He gets along just fine, even when the bus changed routes because of construction work! He is learning to get organized for homework and all his notebooks. He has already made a little group of buddies and was thrilled to learn that his school offers ping-pong and badminton during some lunch hours! That consoles him some for no longer being able to come home for lunch. He is also continuing piano (in his sixth year) and tries to see his old friends in his free time. Please pray for Zacharie and Gabrielle that they could be a light to their friends as they desire to be. Yannick had his school orientation in Strasbourg the same week as the kids started back here. It is interesting for him to get to see the professors and other students in person. This year he is working on finishing first year Hebrew, and on third year level Systematic Theology (with classes in Dogmatic, Ethics and Philosophy) and a multidisciplinary dissertation. We are very grateful for several of the professors who are very warm and encouraging, and for opportunities to increase awareness of CCC's work in France. And as last year at the same time, Yannick has begun work on the budgets for the different branches of CCC France. Please pray for joy and efficiency in his studies and administrative tasks serving the national staff team. I had my first back-to-school with three kids! I have been enjoying Nathanaël's joy, and that he is in a great rhythm and an easy baby. He laughs a lot and loves to go in his stroller to pick up Gabrielle at school. He likes his bath, and playing with us. When we returned to France he began to eat fruits and vegetables and to sit alone. I also enjoyed meeting the professors at Zacharie's new school and seeing all of our acquaintances at the elementary school. Please pray that we could deepen these relationships this year and have many opportunities to share our faith. It is true that we have been quite preoccupied with family needs, but we have also begun staff meetings with our colleagues, including three new couples (two Franco-British and one American). - Joël and Emily Thibault have come to develop the sports ministry (Athletes In Action) in Rennes and the Brittany region. They already spent several years on staff in Lyon. They have a little boy. - David and Carolyn Violleau are new staff who are finishing up their support raising and are going to work with the new ICT (Information and Communication Technology) team in Rennes. They have two little girls. - Trent and Tara Schaller come from the US where they were on staff. They are learning French and she is working on campus, and he with the ICT team.

They were all able to find a lodging and settle in at the end of the summer. Please pray for them, for their adaptation to Rennes and that each could fit in well with their gifts and talents into the ministry here. That also makes more people on our city team and invested in our outreaches together, so please pray for effective team work all together. We would also appreciate your continued prayers for a large project with several local churches using the Potter photo exhibit. The date has been set for January 18-22 with several events built around it. Please pray for the details still to be defined. For the women's ministry, we had to change from our traditional Christmas breakfast because of a problem getting the room. So it will be a Christmas Tea on a Sunday afternoon. Please pray for all the decisions and preparations to be done. We hope that this new formula would attract even more women, including some who couldn't come on a Saturday morning, and that this would be a great tool for inviting non-Christian friends. And lastly, Yannick and I are really pleased to continue the training of new staff. We are working this year with Halle in her second year of training, and David who is beginning. Thank you for your prayers which enable us to continue the ministry here. With you taking the message of Jesus to people in France,

Laurie
