Chicago street numbers start at State and Madison downtown. State Street divides east and west addresses, and Madison Street divides north and south addresses. Suburban street numbers vary; not all use Chicago’s system. One mile is equal to 800 street numbers. Example: Montrose (4400 N) is one mile north of Addison (3600 N).

Chicago Card Plus

TM

Never stop. Just go. In 2004, the CTA will introduce an even more convenient way to pay and go. Never worry about having enough cash to buy transit fares again; your fare will always be there. Chicago Card Plus will provide the ease of online reloading and quicker boarding. In case of loss, your fare will be protected. Two fare options are available: Pay-PerUse, where full-fare and transfer charges are deducted from your account each time you ride; or 30-Day Passes, which provide unlimited rides for 30 consecutive days beginning with the first ride taken using your Chicago Card Plus . Each PayPer-Use reload amount earns a 10 percent bonus. Beginning in early 2004, Chicago Card Plus may be ordered online at www.chicago-card.com, or by calling 1-888-YOUR-CTA. Cards may also be obtained in person at CTA Headquarters: 7th floor of the Merchandise Mart, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. TM

Tax-Free Transit The RTA/CTA Transit Benefit Program is a tax-free transit program that allows employees to save between $200 and $464 in annual taxes by paying for transit with pre-tax income. Additionally, employers realize annual savings of approximately 10 percent of what employees set aside. The Transit Benefit Program affords flexibility for both the employer and employee, offering a number of fare options and combinations to serve a company’s transit needs. For more information on the Transit Benefit program, call the Transit Benefit Hotline at (312) 396-8450.

• Accessible stations have elevators and/or ramps to help customers reach platforms. • Portable ramps (gap fillers) are available to act as a bridge for the gap between platforms and trains. To request their deployment, ask the Customer Assistant or train operator for assistance. • To help plan your trip, call CTA’s Elevator Status Line for an update on elevators that are temporarily out of service at CTA rail stations. Call 1-888-YOUR-CTA (1-888-968-7282) and select prompt 5 from the menu. The status line is updated every four hours. Hearing impaired customers should call 1-888-CTA-TTY1 (1-888-282-8891). • If the elevator you plan to use is not working, there are alternate routings available to enable you to travel to your destination. Details can be obtained from customer service at 1-888-YOURCTA or from the Customer Assistant at any rail station. • If you need help at a rail station and cannot locate the Customer Assistant, you can make a free call to the CTA Control Center for assistance from any pay phone on a CTA rail station platform by dialing the star button (*) followed by the number one (1). Select prompt 5 from the menu.
