Configuring RF600 With PICOPLA

Install PICOPLA Piccopla operates on Windows 98/NT/2000/XP platforms Installing procedure: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Download Picpla.zip file from the Nordic ID web. Extract Picpla.zip. (Winzip, Pkzip, ..) Run setup.exe. Follow instructions of setup program. Run Piccopla from Start->Programs->Piccopla

If version conflict message occurs during setup, press [No to all] button. If sharing violation message occurs during setup, press [Ignore} button. Connecting PiccoLink devices to the PC The hand terminals are connected to the PC with the Desk Top Charger and the base station cable.

The base stations are connected to the PC with base station cable.

Hand terminal settings When editing values in text boxes, press enter to apply changes. Heading

The hand terminal´s initial display heading text. Max 20 characters.

Extra ID

The hand terminal sends this ID to the HOST (0-255)

Password

Change of password (0-9999)

Sleep timeout

The time in which the hand terminal changes to standby-state. (5-55 seconds).

Volume

Beep level. Three different levels.

Key sounds

Enables/disables key sounds.

Reception time limit

The time limit during which the base station must respond to the hand terminal before the message is sent again.

Resending times

How many times a message is sent to the HOST if no answer is received.

Menu Language

Sets the hand terminal´s menu language.

Enable RECEIVE mode by KB.

Enables/prevents changing the RECEIVE mode in the hand terminal.

Battery type

Select Recharg. if using NiCD or NiMH rechargeable batteries, Alkaline if using normal batteries.

F-key text

Setting function keys F1-F10. You can define a 15-character long text under an F-key. F-keys can be defined in two different ways: to print in the field or to be sent to the HOST.

Use formlock

Formlock feature prevents the problem when the host receives the message from the hand terminal,but the hand terminal does not receive the answer from host. After transaction failure,the user cannot modify the values in the fields before sending again. If the formlock is enabled,a user defined message prompts to hand terminal display.

Use default text

The default message of formlock prompts to hand terminal display instead of user defined.

Relay

The relaying Base Station is giving echo from the PiccoLink communication existing in the air back to the air, and thus increasing the reception area. The echo doubles the existing communication in the air, and thus decreases the transmission of coefficient in the channel.

Site Survey

When estimating how many Base Stations are needed in a certain environment it is advisable to use as a help tool the "Site Survey" Base Station. The "Site Survey" Base Station can be used to estimate a receiving area of one Base Station. "Site Survey" Base Station requires only power supply. It answers automatically a connection quality information to the Hand Held Unit which are: GOOD, AVERAGE or POOR.

Sub Station Modem The SSM mode of the RF600 base station allows for asynchoronous (SSM) transfer of arbitrary data between the host and the SSM base station.

Uploading Firmware files to the hand terminal Update mode: 1. Make sure that batteries on the hand terminal are good. 2. Place the hand terminal to the Desk Top Charger 3. Remove charger power supply if connected. 4. Connect the BS-cable between the PC and the Desk Top Charger 5. Run Piccopla 6. Select COM port and press 'Read Target' 7. Check from FW-version number, is updating necessary?. 8. If FW-file is not loaded on your computer, select 'Downloads' tab and dowload proper FW-file. 9. Select 'FW-update' tab. 10. Select 'Update' radio button. 11. Open FW-file 12. Press 'Start uploading' button. 13. Wait. (Do not work with PC during updating) If an errors occurs during updating, then the device is not programmable by 'update mode' anymore. Then the device must be reprogrammed by 'Boot mode'.

Boot mode: 1. Remove batteries from the Hand Terminal. 2. Connect the 'Boot cable' between the PC and the hand terminal. 3. Run Piccopla. 4. Select COM port. (do not press 'Read Target' button) 5. Select FW-update tab. 6. Select 'boot' radio button. 7. Open the suitable FW-file. 8. Press Start Uploading button. 9. Place batteries back to the hand terminal and click OK. 10. Wait. 11. After uploading, remove batteries from the hand terminal. 12. Remove 'Boot cable'. 13. Place batteries back to the hand terminal. 14. The hand terminal is in use again. The Eeprom settings are variables used by firmware. All user defined values are stored in eeprom memory. Eeprom memory will keep values even if batteries are taken off. Extension of the eeprom settings file is (*.epr) The eeprom setting files are text files which contains specific values for the PiccoLink eeprom. Nordic ID provides an *.epr files. Typically, eeprom settings will be loaded together with new FW. To upload *epr files to PiccoLink device: 1. Select FW-update tab 2. Press 'Open eeprom settings file' button and browse for correct epr file. 3. Press 'Start uploading' button.

The builtin Laser Scanner can be configure by the users settings. Programming manual of the scanner provides the programming codes. Extension of the scanner setting file is *.lsr which contains several commands to the laser scanner engine. lsr file example: //Laser settings file //Format is L::Comment L:ZA:Set Factory defaults L:HD:CTS mode Low to transmit.
