VINS PERRACHON Chicago Millenium Knickerbocker Hotel – Jan 23-24, 2007 Beaujolais has a lot to offer for fine wine lovers to discover. It is one of the most misunderstood of the French wines. Outside Europe, the area is often included in Burgundy, while it is actually south of the Burgundy region. Additionally, Beaujolais is made from the Gamay grape, while Burgundies are produced with Pinot Noir. In Europe, many only know of the region the “Beaujolais Nouveau”, a light wine sold a few weeks after harvest, and a global marketing event. The area has a lot more to offer. It spreads over an area starting north of Lyon, up to Macon. The southern part is producing simple Beaujolais. Then, in the middle and towards the river Saone come the Beaujolais Villages, 38 municipalities that make about 25% of the area’s production. At the top of the area and in the mind of the wine lovers are the 10 crus of Beaujolais, the jewels of the crown. Laurent Perrachon, is one of the rising stars of the Beaujolais crus. Discriminating wine lovers in Europe are the best references for his product. This is not a question of luck but hard work. Before assuming the responsibilities for the family vineyard, Laurent trained in France but also in California and South Africa. The French specialized press is not mistaken and has awarded him numerous prizes: for instance, his five crus have been recognized by “La Revue des Vins de France”. Today he is also the president of the Julienas appellation. The domain is capable of satisfying all your needs. Every year, Laurent and his wife Martine ship 80 to 100 thousand bottles from the Domaine des Mouilles, their property in Julienas. Fleurie, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Julienas and Chenas, or five of the ten Beaujolais crus. Their strong points are A constant search for perfection by blending traditional techniques and modern tools. A policy of direct contact with consumers, restaurants and selected importers A strategy of sustained investments, specially in quality A broad experience gained in other wine producing regions in France and the new world The domain already export 30% of its production, primarily in European countries: Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, England, Denmark, and Holland. In those countries, Laurent works with well established importers to insure a good level of service and the proper representation of his work. Numerous European restaurants also trust the Vins Perrachon. This first visit to America is the latest step of a history of love for quality wine that started in 1600, the first traces of their family as winemakers in Julienas. Since then, the family has always looked towards the future, upgraded their skills, with the ambition to offer the best wines of their region to a discriminating public.

Five outstanding crus to taste. At the French Wines World Tour, Laurent Perrachon, the only Beaujolais winemaker present, will be proudly presenting the five of his best wines: Moulin à Vent 2005 This wine is delicate, refined, distinguished, dark garnet-red “Domaine des Pérelles” colored, with berry fruits aromas. It is perfectly able to age 5 to 6 years, thanks to the subsoil rich in manganese. Morgon 2005 “Les A flavored and manly wine, in its sumptuous crimson robe, Versauds” with cherries and peaches aromas when young, and kirsch aromas when aged. The schistous, high in iron oxide soil typical of the cru gives our wine structure and generosity. You must let it age for at least five years. Fleurie 2005 “La At the heart of a granite blade that allows the wines to Cadole” develop a fine texture. You can drink them young or let them age 3 to 4 years. A vibrant red in color, with a rich, velvety texture and an elegant mix of fruit and floral aromas such as iris, violet, summer roses, peach, blackcurrants and red fruits. Fleurie is the most feminine of the Crus. Julienas 2005 Vieilles This wine from the granite and very pebbly soils around the Vignes “Château de la original family estate is produced with grapes from 100 Bottière” years old vines. It has been matured in oak barrels. IT is a full-bodied, well rounded wine able to age for a longer time Moulin à Vent 2005 The oak barrel aged version of our Moulin à Vents is richer, vieilli en fûts de chêne more powerful, as great burgundies are, with faded roses and “Domaine des Pérelles” spices aromas. It is perfectly adapted for long ageing Other wines you may want to discover. Not presented today are the Julienas 2005 from younger vines, the Chenas, the limited edition Morgon Côte du Py, and our Beaujolais Blanc produced from the famous burgundy varietals Chardonnay.
