DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Stable Director, the Farrier ensures the well-being of the horses, shoes them and recognizes disorders that can affect their feet. He must also participate in the general maintenance of the stable. This position requires working different shifts. RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensures the shoeing of all the horses in the stable; Checks the horses’ feet on a daily basis; Recognizes foot problems and treats them accordingly; Handle horses in order to shoe them; Organizes a shoeing schedule taking into account the show, training and rehearsal schedules; Maintains an up-to-date inventory of required supplies and makes any necessary purchases; Participates in the general maintenance of the stable (hands on tasks; technical tasks); Participates in the set up and tear-down of the stable; Performs any other tasks required in order to ensure operations run smoothly.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of one year’s experience in a similar position; Knowledge of the anatomy of the feet and limbs of horses; Good knowledge of foot care, shoeing techniques and different sorts of shoeing; Ability to drive heavy machinery an asset; Autonomous, ability to multi-task; Resourcefulness, hard-working and willing to learn; Interested in touring full-time with the show and authorized to travel and work in foreign countries.

SALARY

To be discussed. Transportation, lodging, food and per diem are provided on tour.
