C57BL/6J Mice JAX® Mice Strain Nomenclature C57BL/6J (inbred)
Strain origin The C57BL/6J inbred strain was created by Dr. C.C. Little: in1921 from the mating of female 57 with male 52 from Miss Abbie Lathrop’s stock. C57BL/6 is the most widely used inbred strain. It was introduced to The Jackson Laboratory in 1948. The colony was transferred to Charles River Laboratories from The Jackson Laboratory in 1981 under the terms of the collaboration agreement between The Jackson Laboratory and Charles River Laboratories. Pedigreed animals were replaced in 1986 and 2003 in accordance with The Jackson Laboratory genetic management guidelines.
MHC haplotype H2b
Appearance Black
Strain characteristics Detailed strain characteristics of the C57BL/6J are available at the website of The Jackson Laboratory: www.jax.org/jaxmice
