BIOGRAPHY OF AARON MCCRORIE Director General, Civil Aviation Aviation Safety Regulatory Framework Aaron McCrorie was appointed as one of two directors-general of Civil Aviation at Transport Canada in April 2015 after leading a number of regulatory programs in the area of surface security, security for major special events, aviation security, and most recently, aviation safety. Aaron has been at Transport Canada since 1999. Today, the scope of Aaron’s mandate is the aviation safety framework, which includes establishing safety policies, regulations, and standards for aviation and aerospace in Canada. Aaron is equally responsible for the development of the guidance, tools and instructions to help industry comply with regulations and for inspectors to oversee regulatory compliance. As Director General, Aaron values soliciting the views of stakeholders, and promoting collaboration with the industry to determine innovative regulatory solutions. Over the years, Aaron has also cultivated strong relationships with authorities around the world including the United States Federal Aviation Administration, and Transportation Security Administration, the European Aviation Safety Agency, as well as the Civil Aviation Administration of China. He very much encourages an open, honest and respectful discussion within his own team, which helps to break down communication barriers that inevitably exist in large organizations such as Transport Canada. Aaron holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton University, a Master of Arts degree from the University of Regina and started work on a PhD at York University. All degrees are in Political Science. Aaron lives in Ottawa, Ontario, and is married to Carmen Abela and the proud father of three children.
AARON MCCRORIE Directeur général, Aviation civile Cadre Réglementaire de la Sécurité Aérienne Aaron McCrorie a été nommé un des deux directeurs généraux de l’Aviation civile, Transports Canada (TC), en avril 2015, après avoir dirigé un nombre de programmes de réglementation en sûreté du transport terrestre, sécurité lors d’évènements d’envergure, et récemment, en sécurité aérienne. Aaron travaille à Transports Canada depuis 1999. Aujourd’hui, la portée du mandat d’Aaron comprend le cadre de la sécurité aérienne, notamment l’élaboration des politiques de sécurité, des règlements et des normes pour l’aviation et l’aérospatiale au Canada. Aaron assume également la responsabilité de l’élaboration des lignes directrices, des outils et des directives pour aider l’industrie à se conformer au règlement et les inspecteurs à surveiller la conformité à la réglementation. En tant que directeur général, Aaron tient à demander le point de vue des intervenants et à promouvoir la collaboration avec l’industrie afin d’apporter des solutions innovantes en réglementation. Au fil des ans, Aaron a également bâti des relations solides avec les autorités partout dans le monde, y compris la Federal Aviation Administration et la Transportation Security Administration aux États-Unis, l’Agence Européenne de Sécurité Aérienne ainsi que l’Administration de l’aviation civile de Chine. Il encourage vivement son équipe à engager des débats ouverts, honnêtes et respectueux. Son approche vise à surmonter les difficultés de communication existant obligatoirement au cœur de grands organismes tel que Transports Canada. Aaron a suivi un parcours en sciences politiques; il est titulaire d’un Baccalauréat de l’université de Carleton et d’une Maîtrise de l’université de Regina et il a également entamé un doctorat à l’université de York. Aaron réside à Ottawa (Ontario), il est marié avec Carmen Abela et il est l’heureux père de trois enfants.
