Arnaud Guillou is at present looking for a postdoctoral position on the sound propagation in complex medium topics (starting date: from November 1st). I am currently finishing a Ph.D. in metrology (acoustic gas thermometry) at Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (Paris, France). The aim of the project I worked on is about the determination of the Boltzmann constant kB by acoustic spectroscopy. In 2011, results of the group I worked with led to the most accurate determination of kB up to now (with a relative uncertainty of 1.24 x 10-6). The experience consists in measuring the speed of sound by spectroscopy of a spherical resonator. In order to obtain the lowest uncertainty on measurements, the resonator is filled with a noble gas (argon or helium). Also, the static pressure and the temperature are carefully controlled. Viscothermal effects which take place within the cavity are estimated. During this project, I improved my theoretical knowledge in acoustics of dissipative fluids. It was also the opportunity to add to my experimental skills by diversifying my laboratory activities (precise acoustics measurements, thermometry, manometry and gas purity control). Data processing and data analysis were also an important part of my work. I am at present looking for a postdoctoral position from November 1st.
