Anissá Bensalah Matriz Born in Haiti form a brazilian mother and an algerian father, Anissa had long musical journey before answering the daunting question : « How do you define your identity when you were raised with three different cultures and languages ? ». She has lived and studied singing and music in Senegal, Libanon and France. Gathering all her lives and all these countries on her on debut album ‘Matriz’, Anissa taunts the idea of national identity. She sings in portuguese, arabic and french, and unveils a music made of an esquisite mixture : the audience may get carried away by joyfull melodies inspired by ‘forro’ and the slow grooves of her ‘andalusian arabic’ pieces. It may as well be driven by some brilliant tunes, that reveal the african roots of brazilian music and the elegance of jazz and classical music. A clever and subtle attempt at intercultural dialogue through art.
